Another day, another Batman movie rumor. Today's big claim is that actor Adam West - best known for his turn as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the campy 1960s Batman TV series - is going to be popping up in Chris Nolan's third Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

Initial reaction amongst Bat-fans is likely to be something along the lines of "cool," but how likely is it that this rumor is going to pan out as fact?

Mention of West's connection to The Dark Knight Rises came from This is Nottingham and was later "confirmed" on the Twitter account of Floss Magazine, which specializes in "hip-hop lifestyle" for those unfamiliar. While it's certainly true that news can break from any direction, at the same time, a magazine like Floss isn't exactly considered the primary authority when it comes to confirming Batman movie news.

Still, you can read the blurbs about West's cameo for yourself, below:

This is Nottingham: “Has anyone else spotted Adam West knocking around in Nottingham? I'd heard the rumours that he was appearing in a small role in the new Batman film, but didn't really believe it until today when I saw him in a pub near Woolaton Hall.”

Floss: Hollywood big wigs confirmed actor Adam West(Batman on the TV series) will make a cameo on "The Dark Knight Rises" set to open July 20, 2012

Let's just assume for a (brief) second that there is something to this. Having Adam West pop-up in a Batman movie would be an awesome Easter egg for fans - akin to the multiple cameos Marvel creator Stan Lee makes in many of the Marvel movies that get released.

More to the point: anyone who has followed Adam West's career since Batman (he's still relevant, thanks to his reoccurring role on Family Guy) knows that the actor's offbeat timing and delivery makes him a great source of comedy. But does comedy of the Adam West brand really fit into a Nolan Batman movie?

A lot of fans will certainly say "absolutely not" - but then again, there are a contingent of fans who have accused the Nolan Bat-films of being "too dark and serious" (Oh why so serious Mr. Nolan?). A brief Adam West cameo would certainly be a way of lighting up the proceedings, if only for a moment. The Dark Knight made use of Anthony Michael Hall (the nerd kid from The Breakfast Club), so fun little Easter eggs in a Nolan film are not exactly unimaginable. To be fair, though, Hall is a legit working actor, while Adam West's only role these days seems to be playing...Adam West.

I'm sure we'll find out if this is completely bogus or not soon enough - but in the meantime, would you like to see old Batman show up in the new Batman movie?
