One of the things people love about Batman is his car. Batman probably has one of, if not the, coolest ride of any superhero, movie character, or any person currently living on planet Earth, for that matter.
The Batmobile is truly an icon, and with every new epoch in the perpetual evolution of the Batman mythos, we look forward to a new version of The Batmobile as well.
Yes, we look forward to new Batmobiles (many of us are eagerly anticipating the new Batmobile design for Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises as I write this!), but what about the long history of the legendary mobile? Sure, you may know the different designs from Tim Burton, Joel Schumacher, or Chris Nolan’s Batman films – you may even be able to pick out the Batmobile driven by Adam West in the 1960s Batman TV show. However, I highly doubt that anyone can list and describe every Batmobile that has ever appeared onscreen or the comic book page since The Caped Crusader’s debut in the 1939.
Thankfully, charting the evolution of The Batmobile is no longer a battle of wits; thanks to CarInsurance.org we now have an awesome infographic that charts the entire lineage of The Batmobile, complete with origin info and nice cartoon sketches of each design. Check it out:

What can I say except that this may well be one of the most useful infographics ever created in the history of mankind. Seriously. Pretty Awesome stuff.
Now that you’ve seen where we we’ve been as far as the history of The Batmobile, there’s only two questions left to ask:
- Did this infographic leave any particular version of The Batmobile out?
- Where do you think Chris Nolan and Co. are going with their new version of the Batmobile in Batman 3?
We’ll know the answer to question #2 for sure when The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20, 2012.

That one from 2008′s The Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghul looks pretty bad-ass, I haven’t seen that before. The one from Burton’s Batman is still my fave from the movies, such an indelible design. I was always partial to Norm Breyfogle’s space-ship type design from 1989, that was when I read the comics religiously.
Really good list, but they’ve missed out the one from Aftershock/No Mans Land as well as the one from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns- both of which helped inspire the design of the Tubler
