The best director for a Barbarella remake would be thoroughgoing fan of Jean-Claude Forest’s original comic strip. Roger Vadim’s movie didn’t come close to doing the comic strip justice. If the remake comes closer to Forest’s comic strip, then it’ll be one of the few cinematic remakes that improve upon the original.

I never liked the idea of Rose McGowan playing Barbarella to begin with. I thought the idea that she should be given the role smacked of an internal politics which I suspect is the real reason Robert Rodriguez left the project. I think Rose McGowan is much more suited to the role of the Black Queen/Great Tyrant, and I hope that’s how McGowan is cast.

Barbarella was a 60’s drugged up mindbender of a movie. People like myself that adore the original will almost certainly hate the remake. I think the movie will be a commercial failure.

Robert Rodriguez was the perfect director for this remake, one that I actually looked forward to (I generally dislike remakes). There’s plenty of young actresses out there that could do the role, but the director is more important in this case. This Lunatic guy or whatever, he’s an inexperienced comedy director whom I dont think will remake Barbarella with the attitude it/she deserves.

The only reason I was interested in this project was because of Rodriguez. Without him, I really don’t care, especially if this Luketic guy is behind the film. For all I know he could be perfect for this kind of movie, but as it stands now, I’ve seen nothing that he’s done that makes this any where near as exciting as it would have been if Rodriquez was still involved.

The only reason I would want to see this is just to see Rose McGowan in that outfit. I really don’t know about the choice of director.
