Havok

The character of Alexander Summers (aka Havok) is the brother of X-Men leader Cyclops and while a lesser known character, he’s certainly a fan favorite. Like Cyclops, Havok has a mastery of energy in that he can absorb ambient cosmic energy and disperse it in waves as a weapon similar to Cyclops’ optic blasts.

According to today’s onslaught of casting reports, Havok may be played by Lucas Till (Hannah Montana: The Movie) in X-Men: First Class although it’s being cautioned that not all of the reports about actors playing certain characters are entirely accurate. We’re warned that Fox may be intentionally putting out character names in order to maintain some sense of surprise for fans.

Here’s the rest of the X-Men: First Class cast as we know it thus far:

In addition to the latest casting news, there are conflicting reports about the key role of Cyclops. Ain’t it Cool News reported earlier and verified from another source that Aaron Johnson was a sure thing for Cyclops but EW says otherwise and that he will have no role in the film.

While we have some concern about the production of X-Men: First Class being rushed, seeing announcements of this many characters in one day is relieving for fans as we start to see the large character line-up come together. We’re also seeing it made clear that Fox is sticking to younger actors in their late teens for mutant roles, allowing for a healthy franchise opportunity with sequels.

Screen Rant will be in full force reporting live from San Diego Comic-Con where we may hear updates, confirmations and hopefully some nice surprises for X-Men: First Class in preparation for the production start in August.

What do you think of the mutant selections so far and what other characters do you still want to see added?

  1. If Havok is in then Lucas Till is the better choice.

  2. I disagree Darren

Hoult is a great actor… he would be my first choice

  3. Hoult is for Beast.

Darn though, I was hoping Kevin Pennington would end up being Havok for the film. I guess he was too old since they are casting teens. :/ Do you know if there is any truth to the Multiple Man rumors for him? But then again, Eric Dane isn’t older than Kelsey Grammar. lol

    • Pennington would have made for an incredible Havok if they used him like an older brother but ya, it looks like they’re aiming for the 19 year-old age. That is, assuming Till is actually playing that character (could be misinformation, remember).

I’ve heard nothing about Multiple Man so I don’t know if that character will even be featured in the movie.

  4. I dont get it, how are they gonna explain Beast being in the film when we see Hank McCoy look Human in X2 on a tv screen?

    • He was called Beast even before he was furry. He’s always been a mutant with superhuman agility, he became furry later. Before the fur arrived (in an experiment that advanced his mutation even further) he had enlarged hands and feet and exactly the same physical abilities. Simple. I suspect Beast in First Class will be non-furry for this reason.

  5. Lucas Till looks way more like James Marsden does than Aaron Johnson does. He’s even got the same smile. I’ve never seen him act, so Johnson may still be the better choice, but based purely on looks I’d give Till the Cyclops role over Johnson.

Either way, he’d still make a good Havok.

  6. My thoughts exactly!! Even though when I found out about Aaron Johnson having the roll I thought he should make a great Cyclops. This is starting to stir the anticipation, and the casting is looking awesome. If fox can get this right they will have it in the bag.
It’s not that I didn’t like the X-Men movies or Wolverine, because I did. Its just the fact that some of the characters didn’t make the leap from page to screen. I started doing comics as a little kid. The casting wasn’t right. Hugh Jackman did a great job as Wolverine he just didn’t fit the part physically. Where were all the funny sarcastically jaded jabs between Cyclops and Wolverine? The ones about Wolverine being short? They weren’t there because he was as tall as Cyclops!!!! So if they cant find some one a little larger to play Beast it will be a shame to see that they are just putting people in and not trying to get them all right!

  7. hey jw so somebody please answer this:

if theyre warning us that fox may be putting out false character names, does that mean that it might actually be a reboot and Till could actually be playing someone like iceman or angel to make it faithfull to the original team? even though banshees been cast which furthens the possibility……

    • No, it’s a prequel, as far as we know. Singer is producing, and he wouldn’t be if it were a reboot. In addition, a second Wolverine film is to start filming next year, so the existing franchise is still very much alive.

  8. you know, Im surprised we havent heard anything about casting for Storm. they said in X1 that she was one of Xaviers first students, so logically shed have to be in the movie wouldnt she?

  9. i dont know why they are adding havok and banshee were they even in the first class comics??? i mean too many mutants= bad movie x men movies are tricky cause you add too many guys and they get no background story whatsoever and then the movie is bad cause they focus on one character only

  10. man….i need to know what are banshee’s powers for the upcoming movie…so if someone could help me with this…im really not a comic readerrr..

  11. Nicholas Hoult is a joke.

He’s crap in everything, not to mention he is not a Beast at all!

  12. Can someone explain. Havok is Cyclops younger brother right? So why did he appear in First Class cos this would mean he would be much older than Cyclops as Cyclops was only a teenager trapped by Stryker in X-Men Origins: Wolverine…. So its doesnt add up… Could someone help me out alittle?
