We already heard today that Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson is apparently “locked” for the role of Cyclops in X-Men: First Class, but we’re also hearing a pile of updates on other key mutant characters to be featured in the X-Men prequel.
In this update we have confirmation on who’s playing Banshee, a possible replacement to play the Beast and word that the character of Havok may be a part of the film. We also discuss the conflicting reports about Aaron Johnson and the idea of there being intentional disinformation on the part of Twentieth Century Fox to keep secret some of the characters that will be a part of First Class.
With all of the rumored characters hitting the net for who may be a part of the roster of X-Men: First Class, we may not be much closer to figuring out which of our favorite comic book mutants may be featured in the Matthew Vaughn-directed X-Men prequel.
Rumored characters have included the likes of Multiple Man, Cable and many others but while we hear of new casting reports today, some of it may not be accurate.
Banshee & Beast
Our friends at Latino Review brought us the scoop about young actor Caleb Landry (No Country For Old Men) being the top contender for the role of the sonically-endowed Irish mutant, Banshee, and they were 100% right. It’s now being confirmed that Landry will be playing Banshee so we can safely add him to our young X-Men roster.
Next up is Beast, a role played to perfection by Kelsey Grammer in X-Men: The Last Stand, becoming the standout performance of the film. Previously, Broadway stage actor Ben Walker had signed for the role but was dropped due to his age, then re-offered the part before declining due to uncertainty about the role and project. It’s now being reported that to replace Ben Walker, and hit the younger age target for the studio, Nicholas Hoult (Clash of the Titans) is signing for the role.
