Two Bale Blockbusters In One Summer?

4 years ago by Jamie Williams

bale terminator batman Two Bale Blockbusters In One Summer?

Earlier today, Screen Rant big-cheese Vic Holtreman gave a status report update on Batman 3. And our very own Kofi Outlaw reported on the news of Terminator 5 being greenlit – this despite the fact that the upcoming fourth installment Terminator: Salvation won’t hit theaters until Memorial Day weekend, 2009.

What’s interesting is both eventual sequels share the same lead actor:

Christian Bale.

As if you don’t know, Bale portrays Batman/Bruce Wayne in the Batman film series and John Connor in Terminator Salvation.

It’s even more interesting to note that Batman 3 and Terminator 5 are also both currently aiming for a summer 2011 release.

But considering that T5 has now been officially greenlit and we really don’t yet know the specifics of the Dark Knight sequel (besides the fact that WB is definitely going to make it), one can’t help but wonder if Batman 3 might get pushed back to summer 2012.

I say that because I can’t imagine a film studio releasing two mega-budget blockbuster sequels headlined by the same actor in one summer. Is it possible? Certainly. But I just can’t see that happening.

This would also give director Christopher Nolan (who is yet to officially sign on) and his team an extra year to take their time and wrap up their Batman trilogy in a manner that would please audiences.

To be fair, this is 100% speculation on my part – maybe I’m just reading too much into this.

What do you think?

I think Nolan will do another film first, because he did The Prestige in between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

I’m surprised they green lighted T5 so quickly.

All I can say is, is that Christian Bale is one lucky MoFo. He is getting damn good roles and that can only be a good thing.

I never thought that child fighting to survive in war torn East (Empire of the Sun) would grow up to be the go-to action guy. Bravo, Mr. Bale!

The man was born in 1974. Why do I all of a sudden feel like I need a cane? 8-)
