On the surface, The Bad Batch doesn't sound like the kind of movie that promises to be a lot of fun. Written and directed by Ana Lily Amanpour, the film takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and centers on a young woman (model Suki Waterhouse) who escapes from a group of cannibals (minus a couple of her limbs) only to fall in with a community of outlaws, outcasts and freaks who live in the desert fenced off from the rest of society.

But let's not be too quick to judge the movie's potential fun-factor based on just that synopsis. Did we mention that Keanu Reeves is in the movie playing a cult leader who surrounds himself with a harem of machine-gun toting women?

The new trailer for The Bad Batch (via NEON) gives us a peek at Amanpour's vision of a dystopian future where freaks are segregated from non-freaks and cannibals roam the earth snacking on models. The main attraction for many folks is going to be Keanu Reeves, sporting the creepiest mustache ever, a head of greasy black hair and giant Elvis sunglasses. And of course he walks around in a silk robe, smokes a pipe and hosts giant raves. There's also a knife-throwing Jason Momoa, who has a love story with the film's heroine.

The second feature film by Amanpour, The Bad Batch played at some festivals in 2016 and garnered decent reviews. The movie is Amanpour's follow-up to her stylishly off-beat vampire movie A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, which was nominated for Best First Feature at the 2015 Independent Spirit Awards. Amanpour is a filmmaker with a distinctive vision and certain definite thematic leanings, so you can be sure The Bad Batch will not be just another Mad Max clone.

Amanpour has assembled a pretty amazing cast to populate her movie, including Keanu Reeves, who is very hot right now with John Wick: Chapter 2 getting great reviews and making nice money at the box office. It's hard to imagine anyone being cooler than John Wick but Reeves' character in The Bad Batch, who goes by the name "The Dream," might actually pull it off. John Wick may have mad killing skills but can he rock Elvis glasses while running a harem of heavily-armed women?

The Bad Batch also stars Giovanni Ribisi, Diego Luna, and (in a small role) Jim Carrey. The movie is set for a summer 2017 release.
