this trailer is FANTASTIC!

the other have all been great but i think they really stepped up with this one .. trying to hype us up .. AND ITS WORKING

in terms of the discussion about them being children books id hardly say that they are

harry potter seems like a franchise thats impossible to classify
when the first few books were released sure they seem liked children then the next few proceeded to young adult and the last book, no one in their right mind could call that childrens literature

the movies change it too … they are meant for kids

I can agree that the final books do indeed deal with a harsher subject matter with more mature characters, but I would suggest that it’s merely the style and approach that deems, even the last book as a book written for younger readers (which in no way suggests that only younger readers will enjoy it, as is evident).

As for the movies, I find it quite interesting (and pleasing) that as each movie goes by, they become more and more like actual movies and less and less like a movie that presents itself as an adaption of a book. The first two movies played like they weren’t really movies, added bits from the books that weren’t necessary and overall didn’t feel like real movies, but slowly and gradually they have and this trailer proves.

I dunno, maybe we simply shouldn’t bother classifying the books themselves. They pretty much seem to be enjoyed by everyone. Rowling matures her characters and the subject matter progressively through each book. The key here is that while movies started out with kids, who were relative newcomers and amatuers at the beginning of the series, they’ve grown up into being a rather nice ensemble cast of actors that have grown in their abilities much like the story subjects themselves.

They are childrens books, but not all books written for children are childish, nor at they any worse than adult books, as the Harry Potter books have proved. But they are, certainly childrens books.

I think the MPAA tend to be a lot more forgiving for violence in movies that are fantastical in their nature. In a movie where magic and sourcery are established elements and the film is overall an adventure movie, a lot more is forgiven when it comes to scary elements than in a movie that is, perhaps, trying to be scary.

Really, as long as no one so much as suggests anything sexual, the MPAA are good.

I’ve been very pleased with the movies after Alfonso Cuaron, with Order of the Phoenix being my very favorite of the five so far. The books do take a turn for the darker, with elements that I think would most certainly not fly in a PG movie. I remember in Lord of the Rings: REturn of the King when the orcs catapulted the heads of their victims into Osgiliath, and I was very skeptical that the scene would be added to the final cut of the PG-13 film. Alas, that was not the case. The bar in terms of violence being depicted in films is being very much lowered.
