‘The Avengers’ Video Interview: Clark Gregg and Cobie Smulders

1 year ago by Roth Cornet

Perhaps somewhat to his surprise Clark Gregg became a fan favorite throughout the course of his appearances in the Marvel movie franchises, beginning with Iron Man. As such, there are a good number of people who are looking forward to seeing how his character has evolved and developed in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Gregg as well as Maria Hill herself, Cobie Smulders, at the Los Angeles press event for The Avengers to talk about:

  • How Gregg’s character stands in for the audience in The Avengers and how his character was allowed to evolve in this film. (0:35)
  • Where Cobie Smulders would like to see Maria Hill go in the larger Marvel universe. (1:47)
  • The overarching theme in this series of Marvel movies culminating with The Avengers. (2:51)
  • The two directions Gregg speculates that the Marvel movies are branching off in. (3:31)

With The Avengers opening this weekend we are certain that fans will have several questions about the future of these characters. As Gregg jokes with Smulders, however, the actors themselves are likely kept in the dark right up to the wire. As soon as there are further details available, though, Screen Rant will be right there to report the news.

I think Marvel should have some two-hero team-ups as well as solo films in the future. Some of the lesser-known heroes can get a good introduction into the Marvel Movie Universe by playing off of the bigger names. It worked for Hawkeye and Black Widow, who have yet to get solo films of their own, so other heroes like Namor, Mantis, Luke Cage, and Agent 13 can have an easy introduction into the series.

Still wanting that She-Hulk movie too.

Coulson and Hill were awesome in The Avengers.
But out of the two? Coulson was my favorite.

Hopefully, Marvel will consider SHIELD movie in the future, expanding the role of these people. Coulson has been a fan favorite and Hill doesn’t have much action in The Avengers. Now, I never like Maria Hill in the comics, but it would be interesting to see her true character in silver screen, especially when/if she’s butting heads with SLJ’s Nick Fury. Hawkeye and Black Widow can tag along too since personally I still can’t see them starring in their own respective movie.

Clark Gregg is great in all the Marvel films. Who knew he was so well versed in plot structure and character analysis. It’s no surprise he holds his own in the company of some top talent. Hope to see more of him.
