Today, we have assembled the latest posters and banners for three blockbuster sci-fi/action productions that will hit theaters in 2012: Marvel Studios' The Avengers, 20th Century Fox's Prometheus, and Walt Disney Pictures' John Carter.

You can check out the newest one-sheets for each of those titles in the gallery above - or, read on for more about each of these films, along with larger, high-definition versions of their respective poster(s).

The Avengers

The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man have been getting loads of attention recently, in part because of the copious amounts of promotional material released for each project. News about the third major comic book flick set to hit theaters in 2012, The Avengers, has been comparatively scarce of late - outside of word about a prequel comic book series being released for the film (and the negative buzz concerning Marvel Studios' creative maneuvering of late).

While there is no official (or unofficial) word yet about when the next Avengers trailer is due to be released, two new international banners for Marvel's superhero mashup adventure have been unveiled. They are, in many respects, identical to some of the previously-released Avengers character banners, passing over a few significant differences (including, the pose Black Widow strikes). All the same, they're still pretty sick.

Check out both of the newly-unveiled Avengers international banners below:

Prometheus

Sir Ridley Scott delves back into the realms of both existential science fiction and (extraterrestrial) monster horror with Prometheus, the upcoming mystery project that originated as a prequel to his 1979 classic, Alien. While we've seen some gorgeous (yet enigmatic) imagery from the film, official plot details are by and large being kept firmly under wraps - the metaphorical implications of the project's title aside.

Here is an official synopsis for Prometheus:

Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

The new official poster for Prometheus doesn't shed any light on the implications of said synopsis; it is, however, just as ominously shadowy and reminiscent of Alien's (unsettling) visual style as the aforementioned images.

Prometheus stars the likes of Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Kate Dickie, Patrick Wilson, Rafe Spall, and Guy Pearce. It is based on a screenplay co-penned by Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour)

John Carter

Disney has only begun to hype its upcoming $200-250 million investment, titled John Carter: an adaptation of author Edgar Rice Burrough's classic sci-fi literary franchise that was brought to life under the supervision of Pixar director Andrew Stanton (Finding NemoWALL·E); it is one of two effects-heavy 2012 blockbusters that is partially banking on Friday Nigh Lights' alumni Taylor Kitsch's leading man chops - alongside Battleship, that is.

Check out an official synopsis for John Carter below:

Civil War vet John Carter (Kitsch) is transplanted to Mars, where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins), Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior.

The new IMAX one-sheet unveiled for John Carter depicts (arguably) the most memorable action set piece on display in the film's full-length trailer: namely, a Martian Coliseum-set death match between Carter and the giant White Apes that are native to the alien planet. It is, of course, only a slight variation on one of the film's previously-unveiled banners.
