avengers thor captain america iron man Avengers Update: Script Done, Being Reviewed

This is just a quick update on the Avengers movie for all you Marvel movie fans out there – it’s nothing that big so don’t get too excited (the title pretty much says it all, actually).

Anyway, yesterday brought word that Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada is sitting down to read The Avengers script. Quesada broke the news himself via Twitter. Keep on reading if you want to know what he had to say.

Here is the Tweet that Quesada sent out to eager Marvel movie fans everywhere:

Definition of “goose bumps.” Pressing enter and watching a screenplay entitled “AVENGERS” come out of my printer.

A second tweet followed soon after that. Here’s what it said:

It’s official, I have the greatest job in the world.

For those of you who have been keeping up with our Avengers coverage here at Screen Rant (and why shouldn’t you be?), then you would know that since last summer screenwriter Zak Penn (X2, Incredible Hulk) has been hard at work trying to connect all the necessary superhero dots into a cohesive Avengers script. The assumption is that the script Quesada is reading is a finished early draft of Penn’s script. Once Quesada and others have had a chance to read through it, the script will enter the revision phase.

As Avenger fans, our shared hope is that A) The script kicks ass and B) That while this draft is making the rounds some choice early details get leaked to we, the ever-watching online press icon smile Avengers Update: Script Done, Being Reviewed .

Stay tuned because you know that “Item B” is pretty likely to happen in the next few (days?) weeks. We’ll keep you updated.

The Avengers is scheduled to hit theaters on May 4, 2012.

  1. I think that there will be three MAJOR villains in this film but one will switch sides near the end. Giant-Man and Wasp BETTER be in this movie too!!!

  2. I doubt we'll see Giant-Man but we can hope for it. It would be cool but major cgi.

  3. Quesada needs to read the screenplay and let it be. We don't need him adding his opinions or changing anything. He has screwed up enough of our characters to this point.

  4. You know what I would like to see…. 2 Avengers movies.. made at the same time.

    Released at the same time.

Close to 6 hours should do the movie justice.

  5. I pretty much think there will be Avengers sequel after it.

  6. Giant Man and Wasp ARE in the movie. Giant Man (hopefully played by Simon Pegg) is a villain as well as an original Avenger in the movie (he tries to kill his wife Wasp with ants). the script is based on the comics series “The Ultimates” series I+II, with the Captain America: First Avenger movie being based on Ultimates (I) issues 1+2 and the Avengers movie based on the rest of the books in series. this is from an interview Mark Millar did after recent meetings to discuss the script. also, Millar wrote Ultimate Spiderman which is rumored to be the basis of the new Spiderman reboot. if this ends up happening then it would also tie the new Spiderman movies into the Avengers movie as well. i LOVE how they are tying the Marvel universe together in these movies, its brilliant.

  7. If they are basing the look of the characters for the movie on the picture above of Thor, Cap, and Iron Man…Thor better not have a sledge hammer as that picture suggests. Mjolnir is a mallet, not a sledge hammer!

  8. I like how they made Giant-Man or Hank Pym a seriously flawed personality and ego. But I wouldn't support him being an all out villain. Make him a real tool and a jerk but with some strong redeeming qualities. Like i said before on another forum, he should first be using real ants in his initial experiments as Ant-Man, then create mechanical “Nano-Ants” with real insect or ant A.I. They should make it “A.N.T-Man” The “A.N.T” being an “acronym” for his nano-ants. Maybe Ant,Nano,Technology or something. The black, red, and yellow ants should all have different abilities.

  9. Pssssh haha Giant-Man.

I think they need Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America (of course), and then Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk, and at the very end of the movie… Bring in the new Spider-Man or bring in Wolverine or something.

As for villains… who do all the Avengers fight? I don't even know…

  10. If someone did that they'd make A LOT of money. Leave people hanging and then say “Wanna see what happens? Go see 'Avengers 2' NOW PLAYING”

  11. Then you'll have GI added to A.N.T-Man which becomes G.I.A.N.T-Man. The G.I could stand for something too.

  12. daddypants

Spiderman and The Avengers don't go together in the movie universe. Can't happen right now.

  13. The Avengers fight all different enemies from all universes. Thanos, Dr. Doom, Hulk among others…
