‘The Avengers’: Loki Clip, Featurette & New Photo Gallery

2 years ago by

At this point, Marvel’s marketing campaign for The Avengers is mostly meant to maintain a heightened buzz around the film during the final few weeks preceding its theatrical release. Hence, most of the recently-released TV spots have been composed of recycled material (from past promos), with a few new shots sprinkled here and there.

That’s opposed to featuring copious amounts of previously-unseen footage, in order to convince moviegoers that writer/director Joss Whedon’s Marvel costumed superhero ensemble blockbuster is something they want to see on the big screen (a la what Disney did with John Carter).

However, today’s roundup of Avengers paraphernalia does includes some fun (but NON-SPOILERY) material worth taking a look at, including a new scene from the film, another featurette boasting cast interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from the Avengers set – and fourteen new photos, which offer a slightly tweaked (if familiar) look at such sights as the Avengers’ Quinjet, the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, and the Mark Ruffalo-based Incredible Hulk.

First, here is the latest minute-long scene excerpt from The Avengers:

This verbal match of wits between Tony Stark and Loki has long been a highlight of the Avengers‘ promotional campaign, going back to its inclusion in the sizzle reel/montage shown at the film’s 2011 New York Comic-Con Panel. Much like the Black Widow clip unveiled last week, this scene nicely illustrates Whedon’s knack for wordplay – though, having someone like Robert Downey Jr. deliver your dialogue always helps, of course.

Moving on – here is the latest featurette released for The Avengers:

Much like its predecessors, this Avengers behind-the-scenes video has seemingly been assembled (no pun) with non-Marvel fans in mind – as opposed to the average comic book fan that is all too aware that nothing like this project has ever been attempted before. Then again, as mentioned earlier, casual moviegoers are really the only ones Marvel is concerned about appealing to, at this juncture.

Lastly, here is yet another collection of official stills from The Avengers (click any one for a larger version):

What else is there to say? The Avengers looks and sounds like it should live up to expectations – by bringing several iconic Marvel superheroes to life (in live-action form) together on the big screen for the first time, with a whole lot of good humor, engaging character drama, and effects-heavy visual flair to boot. We’ll just have to keep on counting down the days until that happens. In the meantime…

The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson, Scarlett Johansson as Natalie Rushman/Black Widow, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill.

Look for The Avengers to hit theaters (2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D) around the U.S. on May 4th, 2012.

  1. looks great, cant wait.

  2. The bracelet… summons the team? I thought they once wore something like that in the comic book.

  3. I try and try to stop watching any new clips from the movie but I’m so damned weak, but this one was worth it to see Stark talking down to Loki like he’s his little indentured servant :)

  4. The bracelet could also be another version of the suitcase armor – i.e. wrist size. He does get thrown out of the window by Loki, so this could be why he puts it on because he knows Loki might take action against him.

    • Maybe just for his hands, I noticed he had two on, one for each hand, so maybe he was using it to shoot at loki but used it to save his own life.

I think it might be something to call the Avengers (after all, a card that lights up and is used as a walkie talkie wouldnt be as interesting as something a secret service agent uses on his wrist, in my opinion that is), or maybe it is used to protect him from magic?

    • I don’t think something that small could be his next suit but we’ll have to see in theatres.

    • It’s a trigger or conduit for some kind of protection, whether it’s armor or a device or a force field, I’ll be curious to see. Stark keeps goading Loki and pissing him off, and Loki strikes out with an attack in anger (because he’s always pissy & insecure) and Stark will be protected.

      • So, I was perusing the news at marvel.com today and found this video of a marvel.com sponsored interactive storybook-type app that takes you through Stark’s Movie Armors.
        Check out the vid:

So it would appear this is some blatant in-movie product promotion??? Tony Stark is inspired to create the Mark VII by a real world bracelet???
Here’s the product’s website (which links to the video)

This is a lot less exciting than armor summoning wristbands. Perhaps it serves some other less gimmicky purpose as well? He modifies them to call the armor perhaps ;P

  5. OMG Loki is so awesome!! And the premiere is today, hope the movie turns out to be phenomenal. Be still my heart. @-@’

  6. the wrist bands might be so that loki can’t use his magic/mind control on stark, just a thought. 13 moar days m god it feel like forever

  7. they should slow down a little on the marketing, ive known people to say stuff like, “not this trailer again, they show it all the time, its getting annoying” and i know they dont want the general public to get annoyed and not go see the movie. they should take a break and then pick it up again like a week before its release.

    • naaa, I disagree. new clips are fun!

      • People *think* new clips are fun…well that ARE fun, because we want to see the movie. But too many clips takes something from when you actually DO watch the movie. People don’t have self control…releasing this much stuff just works against the final product’s viewing experience.

  8. i’m guessing stark owns loki who ragequits and throws stark out the window.

  9. Looked at the stills, but not the clip. The wrist band could be some way of summoning the Avengers (don’t know because I refuse to look at any clips). Hulk looks so awesome!

  10. OUR FINEST HOUR!!!

    • The wrist band resembles the cosmic cube, it might have something to do with that. Then again, it could be a holographic interface with Jarvis.

  11. I cannot be more excited for this movie! This is the best Hulk to date IMO. The look is excellent.

  12. yeah, I think Loki will throw Stark out the window. The bracelet should be the armor. Hence the scene where Iron Man comes out the water in the previous trailer(s).

  13. I think the wrist thing could be his suit. At first I thought it was something about his drinking, but that cant be it

  14. What the hell?..

Screw the wrist bands, Is Stark holding the Cosmic Cube with his bare hands?…

    • Nah, Tony is playing with his holographic computer displays.

      • Hhmm…Ok. I guess I was looking to much into it. It would’ve just seemed like a strange story plot for him to be handling it with his barehands…

  15. I think Stark just felt a little under-dressed compared to Loki, so he’s trying to accessorize.

The bands aren’t for calling the Avengers, otherwise wouldn’t he just call them (press a button or something). I think it’s some kind of tech he uses for defense or offense. We’ll have to wait to find out though.

  16. The picture of Stark holding The Cosmic Cube is even more brilliant than this great scene.

The Cube is the key to opening up the entire Marvel Universe…and that for me means….

    !!!THANOS !!!

    • That’s what I’m trying to point out. The power he has within his grasp, He could accidently rip time & space destroying the Universe as we know it! Get the Infinity Watch! He might be a Genius in earth but this is beyond his human level of understanding. I’m not sure If I remember correctly but don’t the users of the Cosmic Cube get addicted to its power?..

Anyways, It’s just a movie adaptation and I may be looking to much into it. I Love Thanos BTW. Haters gonna Hate!..

    • cosmic cube powers new armor. just like red skull used it in captain

    • It’s a holographic projection of the cube.

  17. From these new pics we finally get a good look at how the mark 7 armor looks live. Before now I judging only by the toys the overall look looked great it has very rounded lines but then the pods on his shoulders (at least on the toys) looked very blocky and I thought kind of through the whole look off but with these new images thankfully it does not look that way it all looks streamlined I still think this armor will have some cosmiccube tech in it we”ll see.

  18. that is a holographic image of the Cube

  19. The bracelets summon the Mark VII Armor, Loki throws him out the window and the suit is guided to him by the bracelets, thats why there’s a pic of him floating outside Stark tower in the Mark VII.

    watch: http://youtu.be/2cmtP7-kjwA

    • Kinda makes sense…I don’t see the reason for Stark and Loki to be having such a long conversation…

  20. It’s a Colantotte bracelet

    • Yes, but it serves some purpose in the plot. I’ll be curious to see what that is.

  21. Man rdj is so dam awesome

  22. My must-see for 2012. I only hope it’s not all hype. So far I have been disapppointed by several must-see films this year.

  23. Robert and Tim sure do elevate everything about this production.
Actors of this caliber may be the film’s real secret weapon.

  24. Brilliant writing by Joss Whedon. Can’t. Freaking. Wait.

  25. At marvel.com they have some drawn images focusing on ironmans hands in the armor and the area where the bacelet would be is glowing in the same shape.

  26. Wouldn’t it be neat if in an easter egg after the credits we see thanos and some Skrulls appear, thanx to the Cube? Oh, yeah! Oooohhhh, yyyyeeeeaaaahhhh! Ohyeahohyeahohyeahohyeah!!

  27. i just had a thought, as i watched that clip for the 6th time today. i don’t know how many pics RDJ signed on for, but, if they wanted to do a slightly older version of iron-man (cause he’s not immortal, he’s gonna get older) i think jeffery dean morgan could pull it off. he had a similar cocky swagger in watchmen, and i think he could do tony stark

  28. the bracelets remotley activate the iron man armor and guide it to tony OR the bracelets activate the suits to come and protect the wearer of the braceletes.

  29. Where’s the video?
