Today’s daily dose of Avengers goodness comes in the form of a full-length international trailer that comes “saddled” with Japanese voiceover narration and subtitles (but non-dubbed dialogue), along with a whole lot of new footage from writer/director Joss Whedon’s extravagant Marvel superhero ensemble epic.

Among the goodies included in this new international theatrical promo for The Avengers are: yet another cool (if blurry) glimpse at the film’s extraterrestrial invaders – who Whedon has confirmed are neither the Skrull nor the Kree - along with more footage of Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) looking (what else) badass in action, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) battling his brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and a brief appearance by a familiar player in the Marvel movie universe… and no, it is NOT Spider-Man, as has long been rumored.

In the aftermath of the second domestic Avengers trailer, there’s little more (if anything) that need be done to convince most comic book lovers to see the film for themselves and find out if Whedon and his collaborators have indeed managed to pull off this risky endeavor. Everything from that promo’s awe-inspiring “money shots” like Hulk catching Iron Man – or the already-iconic visual of the Avengers assembled in battle – to the strong hints of a storyline rife with engaging personal drama… well, all that does a great job of selling itself.

The promising new footage included in the latest Japanese Avengers trailer – be it new shots of the Avengers’ helicarrier (see below) or Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) voicing her skepticism about her boss Fury’s plans – is just icing on the cake, as far as the buildup to the film’s release goes.

  1. Let’s keep it accurate. Where is Antman and the Wasp???

    • Still on this? They are obviously not in the movie. Just accept it and you’ll be happier.

    • Where is Scapegoat’s facepalm image?! :-)

      • Hahaha… ;)

    • who gives a damn about them? they were so unengaging, they havent even been continued avengers members in the comics.

  2. “and a brief appearance by a familiar player in the Marvel movie universe”

I don’t see it, please help me ^^

    • Ok, pepper. Big deal…

    • The Helicarrier

  3. wow really that was a pretty big hype there was no actual (somebody) camo

  4. How they are going to get around not having War Machine in the movie? The world is ending, we are “hopelessly outgunned,” and every last resource is being thrown at the alien threat. So…Is Rhodey on vacation? These is lean times, homie. Get in there and do this thang.

    • @Nick
Rhodey got fired, just like Terrence Howard.

    • I agree completed. The only thing is that Fury didn’t recruit him. You’d hope that maybe he’s fighting in a different city and they do a quick view of it.

      • Yea I hope to see a scene with War Machine leading a group of US tanks on a SHIELD screen when the world goes to sh**.

      • that would be wise to recruit warmachine,he´s got a nearly good armor like iron man(and two mark-armor warriors are better then one). who knows who knows?

    • Maybe they will acknowledge that its the inferior and flawed suit that was discarded in the first film.

  5. I can say that it’s nice to see Stark questioning what Fury is keeping from them – we all know how shady Nick can be. So hoping they keep that theme in movies going forward.

  6. I agree with Kahless, it’ll be a number of years before he realizes what you’ve done and grows to resent you lol jk ;)

  8. There’s still over two hours we haven’t seen! Yippee!

I’m guessing there will be loads of easter eggs and even a few more cameos. It’s Josh Whedon after all.

WIDOW: Clint can you reach me?
HAWKEYE: No… Goliath I ain’t. Back up… I got an grapple arrow for this.

    like that but better.

  9. Cool….

  10. I literally caught myself say “How long is this this thing?” in the middle of watching this. Don’t get me wrong… I’m as pumped as anybody to see this, but i feel like i just watched the entire movie.

    • really? you watched a 2hr15min movie in 2 1/2 minutes? i’m sure there will be lots more than what we just saw. there’s only 15 seconds of different footage in this trailer compared to the other 2. i’m surprised they havent done the 1st 6 minute tease like some other movies have done (TDKR, john carter)…only 49 more days (yeah, yeah, yeah, the avenger, keep rubbing it in :P)

      • The Avenger isn’t the only one that can rub it in- in fact, I believe I’ll be able to see the movie a whole day before him! :D

Yup. After years of being ignored, NZ finally has something to brag about- we’ll be the first country to get TA (because of time zones) AND The Hobbit! I’ll definately be at the premier in Wellington, with my lover…I mean, sheep ;)

        • Anzac Day?

          • Yes, ANZAC day. Why?

        • I’ll get to watch ‘The Avengers’ on 27th April !!!

  11. can the cameo be stan lee?

    • that’s what I’m assuming

  12. Hmmm, what we need to make the Avengers Universe even better is Goliath (Hank Pym–blue/yellow cool-looking costume), Wasp, Quicksilver, & Scarlet Witch for the good guys, and Ultron, Mandarin, & Kang for the bad guys. Hint-hint…any decision-makers for Marvel out there reading this?

    • Oh yes, and the real Skrulls and Thanos, also, if they are not in Avengers #1!

  13. So are you telling me that the entire article was based on the fact that the small character of Pepper Potts appeared in the trailer for half of a second? Really?

The Helicarrier was the real reveal in this trailer. Can’t wait to see that baby in action!

    • The Helicarrier is the “cameo” in the trailer. And I quote “an unexpected appearance from a Marvel universe staple”

  14. How about a screen rant poll on which previously unseen characters we think will be revealed in the Avengers? My money’s on an Ant-Man and Wasp reference and a Wakandan Black Panther post credit scene.

  15. Who is Thor fighting atop a building, around 2:01 in the trailer

      • is it me, or does he look like he’s sporting “mr. tummnus” legs? they look bent in the wrong direction.

    • loki

    • @John Carter – My guess is either Hulk or Iron Man.

      Paul Young

      • Seems more like Odin to me!

        • You can clearly tell its Loki!

  16. I think Loki’s army is definitely from the 9 realms because Thor seems to know who he’s fighting when he tells Fury,” You have no idea what you’re dealing with. ” or at least that’s how it sounds IMO

    • i assumed he was refering to loki, since us humans arent used to dealing with an asgardian on a rampage, and especially one as clever/dangerous as loki.

      • You’re probably right Jeffro I’m just grasping at straws here because I’m so f’ing curious about this armada

  17. Sad to see that Whedon or whoever else decided to cut it down from 2 1/2 hours to 2hr & 15min. Most of the Steve Rogers POV has been cut too. Well it looks like these villains will be Alpha Centurians and or Deviants.

  18. If Pepper Potts is the cameo thats a bit of a bummer, but the movie is looking better and better.

  19. so, does it not start until august in japan? is that the 8.17 at the end of the trailer?

  20. you wanna see what the aliens look like.. the lego toy is already made.. go google brickset Captain America’s Avenging Cycle & Quinjet Aerial Battle.
