Avengers: Infinity War might not be hitting theaters until May of next year, but production on the massive ensemble movie is already well underway. Production was officially announced as starting last month, with a behind-the-scenes video featuring Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, and Robert Downey Jr. Since then, there’s been more news of various MCU stars joining the set in Atlanta, before production moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, for a six-month shoot. Karen Gillan (Nebula), Paul Bettany (Vision) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) have all been shooting in recent weeks, and as production continues, we are sure to see more actors heading to the set.
With a movie as big as Infinity War, there may not be a single scene with the entire superhero crew involved — and it is more likely the Avengers will be running into various heroes at different times and in different places. It does seem likely that all of the Avengers will join forces, however, and that means getting team members past and present on set together at the same time. With Black Widow and Vision already in Scotland, there’s news that another Avenger is on his way to join them: Jeremy Renner.
Renner posted a photo of himself to Twitter earlier today, showing himself on an airplane. The photo is captioned “It’s time. ✈️???. #team #avengers #marvel #hawkeye”. The actor, who plays Hawkeye in the MCU, is clearly on his way to Scotland to join the shoot there, although he doesn’t state the location in the tweet itself.
Renner has appeared in four films in the MCU so far; The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and a brief cameo in Thor. He is one of the few Avengers who has not had his own solo movie, and is rumored to be appearing in Ant-Man and the Wasp as well as in Avengers: Infinity War. Although he doesn’t say that he is flying to Scotland in his tweet, we can assume that he is given that we know that is where production is currently filming.
There was never any doubt about Hawkeye’s appearance in the upcoming Infinity War, but it’s fun to see the actor heading out to set. As one of Marvel’s most underused MCU characters, lots of fans will be hoping to see Clint Barton take a bigger role in the film, and if he is on set for the rest of the 6 month shoot, that would certainly indicate a bigger part to play in the final film. Of course, this photo doesn’t tell us anything more than the fact that he is going to be filming some scenes in Scotland, but it’s still fun for Hawkeye fans to see, and means that some set photos featuring the archer may surface soon.
