Marvel fans are in for a very exciting 2017, with (for the first time) three films coming from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the same year - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok - although the film all eyes are really on is 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, the epic conclusion of the Infinity Stone plot that's been threaded through the MCU films since 2011's Thor. Little is known about what directors Anthony and Joe Russo actually have in store - not even which bits of the various Infinity comic book stories they will borrow from - but with the promise of Josh Brolin's Thanos finally getting to show off his villainy, it's hard to not get excited.

The biggest question is who will be in the movie. Long gone are the days of six core Avengers, with a team now made up of almost a dozen heroes, who are split after the events of Captain America: Civil War. On top of a sprawling narrative and a myriad of contracts, though, there's also the matter of that other major Marvel super-team: the Guardians of the Galaxy. Ever since the space Avengers' debut film in 2014, fans have been clamouring for the two sides of the MCU to come together - something that has been strongly hinted to happen in Infinity War at last. Well, now we have confirmation that Gamora, the green-skinned assassin, played by Zoe Saldana, is definitely going to be there.

Speaking on the Golden Globes red carpet to MTV News, Saldana was asked if she was in Infinity War, to which she was a responded with a simple nod, before elaborating on the status of the script and her hope for the project:

"I don't know when they're gonna let me read it. I mean, I'm not looking forward to the five hours of green make-up, but every time I finally arrive on set I feel so happy and lucky to be there."

Gamora was the (former) favorite daughter of Thanos, so it only makes sense that she would appear in Infinity War, but confirmation from the actress herself is still very good to hear. While the extent of any of the Guardians' roles in the third Avengers film is unclear, Gamora is likely to be a key presence. When discussing the team working with the Avengers last year, Guardians costar Vin Diesel alluded to Gamora and Thanos' familial connection, suggesting that it could be a very important element of the teams' attempts to stop the Mad Titan from wielding the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet in the Infinity War movie.

In the same interview, Saldana also reveals that she's seen some of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; when she went to do ADR work on the film, James Gunn showed her several clips, which she says "looks great". If the Guardians sequel is as successful as the first movie, then Saldana can expect to spend a lot more time in green make-up over the next few years.
