Marvel Studios is fresh off their biggest film yet in Captain America: Civil War, a movie that featured twelve super powered people fighting one another. If viewers thought this was the maximum number of heroes that they could fit in a single film, Avengers: Infinity War and the currently Untitled Avengers sequel will be quite the surprise. The former two-part epic will bring together all corners of the MCU films (with speculation still hopeful for TV characters as well), undoubtedly featuring the largest cast for an MCU film yet in the process.

As if it was not enough to bring together the likes of Iron Man, Star-Lord, Cap, Vision, Thor, Hulk, and countless others, the movie(s) could also present brand new characters to the audience. When it comes to bulking up the defense team to Thanos' reported plan, it is now confirmed that the Sorcerer Supreme himself will be involved.

Benedict Cumberbatch spoke to Empire (via Express UK) about Avengers: Infinity War and confirmed that Doctor Strange will be taking part in the ensemble. This means that Cumberbatch will be making his way to Atlanta near the end of the year to begin on the nine month shoot - which he may not be needed for entirely. The Russo brothers will be filming both movies out of order to capitalize on which actors are on set, with Cumberbatch telling Empire there is a "logistical challenge of aligning his schedule with those of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany." Even though it is a challenge, the actor is looking forward to the journey.

To get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter... So watch this space to see how that unfolds.

Doctor Strange Comic-Con trailer and poster

It is not a shock to know that Strange will be in Infinity War and likely the sequel as well, but it does make it interesting as to how he will become acquainted with the larger universe. Once he makes his debut in Doctor Strange, he will certainly know of the Avengers and the potential allegiance that could be formed. There have so far been no indications of how his solo film connects to the larger MCU, so don't be surprised if the post-credit scene does that job with a cameo from another MCU star potentially.

If that is not the case, then maybe Strange will cameo in Thor: Ragnarok after all, despite what director Taika Waititi says. Thor's journey is to learn more about the Infinity Stones and Thanos' impending attack, and Strange could potentially be a big help. After all, speculation has continued to point to Strange's Eye of Agomotto as potentially being one of the final two Infinity Stones, and if Thor knows of this, then a warning could be in store. However Marvel decides to connect Strange to the larger MCU, it just exciting to know for certain that he will be in the biggest Marvel film ever.
