‘The Avengers’ German Trailer Features More Stark Snark

Marvel is working hard to ensure that everyone around the world gets psyched to see superheroes like Iron Man and Captain America unite in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, and so today we have a new German-dubbed version of the recently-unveiled Avengers trailer (complete with additional footage) to show for it.

While the majority of this subtitle-less German Avengers promo consists of the same material shown in its U.S. counterpart, it also features excerpts from two different scenes where Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) continues to verbally spar with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and attempts to provoke a “reaction” from Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo).

That scene involving Stark, Banner, and Rogers was originally included in an Avengers sizzle reel screened at last year’s New York Comic-Con. However, since the majority of you reading this haven’t seen it before – and won’t be able to understand the German-dubbed Stark snark (now there’s a phrase) in either of the aforementioned new Avengers bits – we also have English translations, available after the trailer (tip of the hat to CBM for those).

First, have a look at the new Avengers German trailer:

The dialogue for that new Stark vs. Rogers scene (with Thor and Black Widow looking on nonchalantly) goes something like this:

Tony Stark:… And following orders is obviously not my style.

Steve Rogers: And everyone knows that style is all you care about.

Tony Stark: From all the people around here, who wears the most figure-hugging outfit?

Similarly, here’s the transcript for that concluding moment with Stark irritating Banner, as the latter examines what appears to be an extraterrestrial weapon:

Tony Stark: I promise a stress-free environment. No surprises. (zaps Bruce)

Bruce Banner: Ow!

Steve Rogers: Hey!

Tony Stark: You really got it under control, don’t you. What’s your secret? Relaxing Jazz, bongo drums?

Steve Rogers: Is everything like a joke to you?

Tony Stark: If it’s funny!

Tony Stark messes with his teammates in 'The Avengers'

Downey looks to make good on his promise that Stark enjoys annoying Banner in The Avengers – and from previous clips we already know that the man behind… er, Iron Man doesn’t exactly believe in respecting his elders, judging by the low blows we’ve already seen him take at Captain America. Suffice it to say, the prospect of Downey as Stark wielding verbal zingers scripted by a master of witty wordplay like Whedon (see his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly for proof of that) is quite promising.

As for the rest of the movie: that footage speaks for itself. If all goes according to plan, The Avengers will indeed be both a genuinely epic comic book blockbuster and a great way to kick off the 2012 Summer Movie Season.

The Avengers opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters around the U.S. on May 4th, 2012.

  1. You know, in my list of characters I’m looking forward to, Iron Man is near the bottom. I feel like we’ve seen that before. I’m looking forward more to some Thor action. But it gives us the comedy in these Marvel movies that we love. So cool deal! :)

    • “I feel like we’ve seen that before.” – I don’t really see your point…
Are you’re tired of Tony Stark?
Cause if that’s the case, then after the Avengers you’ll probably be tired of Thor and Cap as well…

      • I think that Kyle means is that the Tony Stark “charming humor” schtick is a little old, or at the very least, laid on a little thick.

There just seems to be no depth to Tony Stark. The character of a rich man-child doesn’t really have a place when world is being attacked by an army of aliens and a God.

        • Yeah, and that’s a real shame since his mainstream comic version has alot more depth. We begain to see some of that in IM2 so I hope they keep it up in 3.

        • No depth?
IM2 was filled with character development and -depth.
If you guys are expecting a complete personality change, then you’re in for disappointment: Stark will always be Stark. He’ll always be that eccentric narcissist we know and love. Plus, Tony Stark isn’t really the type of character that shows off all of his emotions and feelings (hence keeping his ill health a secret from those he cared about). He likes to keep that “perfect, playboy image” because he doesn’t want people to know the real him (paraphrased from IM2 director’s commentary with Favreou)– that’s why most of his friends are his robots and his AI system.
And during those few times where he does show some emotion – or growth/development/depth (for example: in the cave when what’s-his-name died [IM1] and when Stark’s father told him he was proud of him [IM2]), I for one definitely saw it.

Point is, he has changed a bit between IM1 and IM2 and I definitely saw and felt some depth to the character during those two movies.
I’m sure the character will continue to develop in IM3.

          • Out of all the Villians they Chose Whiplash? Lame charecter. My vote would be the CONTROLLER.A villian Iron man can’t beat using his armour. A Creepier guy you will not see.

All that being said, as a 48 year old man who has been a FOOM member since the early seventies. Iron Man 2 was not very good.

  2. I’ve decided not watch any more (new) trailers or footage of TA until the movie is released. That said, I’ve read the translations of the new German footage and I just have to say: I KNEW Stark would make a comment about Cap’s costume :P

I can’t get more psyched than I already am.
Just bring on the 29th of April already! Only 50 days to go!

    • So if you read the dialogue, you could have watched the trailer too.

      • Not the same at all IMO.
Reading how Tony Stark irritates everyone around him doesn’t even compare to seeing it :P

    • I’m not seeing nor reading anything more about this movie. This is my most anticipated and I don’t see that changing at all.

      • I won’t be reading any more spoilers or info about the movie’s plot either… but I’ll still be reading articles like this, where there’s just a bit of new dialogue (that isn’t relevant to the movie’s overall plot).

      • Oh yea! Well I am not seeing any trailers, reading anything or watching this movie until it comes out on dvd and not until Downey breaks character after the commentary and the credits role! Take that!

        • Nice! Downey was great in Tropic Thunder. That’s one of the few commentaries that really was worth watching, since he was still in character until the end. Funny stuff if anyone hasn’t checked it out.

This movie is my most anticipated of the year. Hopefully I don’t over hype it in my head and end up being disappointed. I enjoyed the other Marvel movies, so I doubt I’ll have a problem.

  3. Every time i see a trailer i just think back to the incredible hulk ilm and remember The Leader was created, and emil blonsky never died and really did nothing against the law that the hulk has not done. so where are they both? want to see more of them.

    • Yea im still waiting for the TIH sequel and The Leade’s return. Watching the first Blonsly vs Hulk fight is like watching Captain America come alive on screen.

      • i agree, the scene where blonksy fights the hulk at culver university really made me excited for captain america.

blonksy is being mentioned a few times in the other marketing campaigns (comic book tie-in and the marvel one shot) i wonder if we will find any mention of him in the movie…

    • I’ve been hoping that they’d make an appearance in this new movie too – after all – it was The Incredible Hulk movie where Stark appeared at the end & spoke to General Ross….the 1st time the movies crossed over.
Would love to see Abomination & The Leader show up – They’ve hinted there will be many villians in it – not just Loki – so who knows what they’ve got planned.
Loving the Tony Stark winding-up the other characters – Superb !

      • I seriously doubt we’ll see or hear about the Leader in TA — they’re probably saving that character for TIH2 (plus, The Leader was never really an Avengers villain)
Like “andrewishochi” said, there have been quite a few references to the Abomination in the shorts and comic tie-ins, so I’m guessing they’ll mention him in the movie…

    • i forgot if its in the im2 blue ray or in the thor blue ray but they have a short film with agent coulson and another agent talking about blonkis or however you spell his name.. but they talk about general ross wants the abomination on the avengers or something like that

  4. If this movie goes above and beyond the average expections creating a blue print to what makes a good Superhero team up movie, i wonder if Disney/Marvel can use that as leverage to get back X-Men.. or at least get a little more control over it.

  5. Cap: Stark, is everything a joke to you.
    Stark: When it’s funny
    *Adlib lines*
Cap: We could do this without you.
Stark: You wouldn’t even have a movie without me.

    • hahahaha

    • Good one.

  6. Hey guys lets talk about something else besides the Avengers like the Hunger Games or John Carter….psych! I have been pheening for the Avengers like a crackhead needing May 4th to get here so I can beam up to Scotty. But seriously though, crack is wack.

  7. is that loki’s staff thingy they are looking at?

damn, May can’t come soon enough.

  8. More comedy coming over from Thor…pshh…great….

  9. Avengers rock! Iski maa ki choot!

  10. Am I mistaken or is that Loki’s staff they appear to be dinking around with?

    • You´re not mistaken.

      • well then, one has to wonder exactly how the acquired it!?

        • They caught him of course!! Remember the first trailer when the guards were taking Loki to imprisonment?

          • Yes but he is already in custody at the beginning of this movie and he did not have this bobble on him in Thor. It is something he will only get in the Avengers.

  11. I am going to go with some of the previous posts. I am not watching any more footage or reading any other spoilers for this movie. There is no way I can get any more excited and I do not want to ruin the experience any more than I already have :) . This will be the movie event of the year!

  12. What I love the most is that Bruce is actually smiling after getting poked. Avenger bros! Also, Black Widows little shrug made me crack up. Think I’ll walk out of the theater loving all of the cast.

  13. Okay, I confess: even with the German, I got goosebumps. Alas, no Vision, no Quicksilver, and is the Black Widow doing in this movie? (forgive me, I’m a mid to late 70′s era Avengers fan). But I am still pumped for this movie.

I had heard rumors – I guess they were rumors — that the Skrulls were going to make an appearance in this flick. Trailer doesn’t give any evidence of this, unless I am missing something. Any insights?

    • the director and producer confirmed that there will be no Skrulls because they’re owned by Sony and are primarily villains for Fantastic Four (also owned by Sony).

      • “Skrulls because they’re owned by Sony and are primarily villains for Fantastic Four (also owned by Sony).”

Really? Was it because of ownership? If you would be so kind as to point in the direction this statement (about ownership) was made It would be greatly appreciated.

I believe FOX owns the FF rights. I believe there was no mention of a rights issue with the Skrulls be it Fox or Sony.

        • I said, THE DIRECTOR CONFIRMED that they can’t have the Skrulls because they’re were owned by another company. He said it himself.

          • i havent seen any such quote from JW. kevin feige stated (paraphrase)”we’re not doing the kree-skrull war thing”, but he never said it was because of any ownership issue, and since he’s the producer off all these marvel films (even the raimi spiderman trilogy at a differnt studio) i think he would have said that. i’m not saying you’re wrong, i’m just saying i have followed a ton of stories on this and i don’t recall whedon saying that.
also, if you read this article here http://screenrant.com/marvel-comics-movies-characters-carl-6766/ it breaks down what studio owns what. if it’s not on the list, then marvel owns it

          • @ Ur mom, Fox DOES NOT own the rights to the “skrulls” they own the rights to “Super-Skrull” which is an individual character in which they sort of hinted at in FF2,Rise of the Silver Surfer. When all of the FF’s powers were combined, that was a subtle nod to Super-Skrull who’s power is a combo of the FF’s. Kevin Feige himself has gone on to say that MARVEL STUDIOS does indeed own the skrulls and kree, however if the skrulls make an appearance(they won’t be the only villains) more than likely they won’t be called “skrulls”(maybe called something else) so as not to step on any Fox toes.

          • He never said anything like that…
The closet dismissal of the Skrulls came from Feige when he said they’re not doing a Kree/Skrull war… and even with that official statement, it still doesn’t completely dismiss the Skrulls as villains (only that there won’t be a war between the two races)
Plus, as many here have said, Fox doesn’t own the rights to the Skrulls and even if they do (which I highly doubt), that still won’t be a problem since marvel could easily change their appearance a bit and call them the Chitauri.

            • @The Avenger, Did you read what I said up there ^LOL! Feige said Marvel Studios owns the skrulls. Yes he did indeed say “we are not setting up a skrull/kree war or anything like that”. Marvel doesn’t have to change the appearance of the skrulls at all if they own the rights. The name is just too close to “The Super Skrull”(which Fox does own) and that may be the only reason why they may use another name but use the same appearance, it’s just a rumor but they may just use the name “The Redacted”. So far, villainous toys from the Avengers look exactly like skrulls with the linky bodies, same weaponry, gear and EARS. However, the creatures jumping off of the “leviathin” ship are not skrulls and don’t look anything like skrulls. There maybe at least two or more different race types within the army not just skrulls.

As far as The skrulls, there are skrull hybrids known as different names in different galaxies. The Deviants are some of the genetically enhanced race of skrulls. There is one character who is 1/2 deviant and 1/2 Titan, that is Thanos. But skrulls(with a different name or not) will not be the main or focal point villains at all. We’ll find out next month either way when the movie comes out in Europe.

              • @Blastaar
My comment was a reply to “Ur mom”, not you…
I agree with what you said.
(If I was replying to your comment, mine would have been indented under yours)

And when I said “even IF Marvel doesn’t own the rights to the skrulls” — I meant, in the -unlikely event- that they do… but like you said, Feige confirmed the Skrulls are in Marvel custody… so that “even if” is rendered nullified anyway.

Next time I’ll remember to give an @[insert name] when I’m replying to someone…

                • @The Avenger, oh ok my bad.

          • As my compaitriots pointed out there is a lot of evidence to the contrary.

However If you can find where it was confirmed (the ownership issue) by the director I would like to read about it.

  15. I would watch an entire movie of Tony Stark ripping on Chris Evans halloween costume. lol.

I would watch an entire movie of Tony Stark! Wait I have already. Twice! Avengers Assemble!

  16. i think it is funny how in the german trailer, they make captain america seem like a real downer….

i dont know anything about international film marketing but i wonder if this was on purpose?

    • Yes, that was totally on purpose. Also, we still great each other with “Sieg Heil” and gas ethnic minorities.

If you haven´t noticed, that was sarcasm.

      • Where’s the like button?

      • After eating beans, I gas everybody. :-D

  17. WOW!!! I loved that clip, that really felt like a behind the scenes clip or sort of in a day to day reality sense. It gives you the sense of what it’d really be like knowing these characters personally or being around these characters in real life. I actually felt like I was watching them in a real situation and not a movie. I felt like I was in the lab with these guys and the fact that Banner is smiling after getting shocked makes it seem even more of an off camera but realistic moment, if that makes any sense. I love this style of directing.

    • YOU are owned by Fox and not allowed to post in a Marvel run movie thread.

      ;)

      • @Aknot, no dude I think you got it wrong. I didn’t mean it in a bad way. I ‘m 100% Marvel Studios, I hate the fact that Marvel is limited by Fox and Sony by owning rights to key characters. I think that clip just felt awesomely real in way where if one was able to capture the Avengers on film in REAL LIFE this is the kind of stuff that we’d see. I think it’s awesome!

        • hahahahaha No your name…. is the name of a FF Villain….

Thats all. So you (Blastaar) is owned by Fox… I was just having funs with name/character ownership.

          • @Aknot, LOL!!! Yeah, your right!! I doubt they’ll use Blastaar though and I hope they never get a chance to. LOL!!!!

  18. @Aknot, I meant I think you misunderstood me.

  19. Guys, guys, guys … I was only wanting to find out some info on a possible appearance by the Skrulls in the new Avengers flick. Wasn’t intending to start a Screen Rant civil war — not even a Kree-Skrull war. ;O)

    • Appearance? Possible. Main story based on or around probably not.

Thats the wonderful thing about Marvel that we all seem to enjoy. They can hint, show or flat out present anyone/thing they want in their Universe.

and it makes us dorks/geeks/fanbois salivate….. and they know it.

      :D

    • You didn’t start a “war”, you started a discussion… which is what we do here on screenrant :)
(Some of these discussions go on for DAYS, mate)

  20. Been a fanboy since the early seventies. The idea that we are now capable of bringing my childhood vision to life amazes me more everyday.

    STAN LEE IS GOD!!
