Avengers Cast “Confirmed,” Iron Man 2 to Intro New Avenger

avengers film Avengers Cast Confirmed, Iron Man 2 to Intro New AvengerAccording to Den of Geek, Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier has been letting all the beans spill from Marvel’s bag of tricks concerning the cast of the Avengers movie, as well as the current state of Iron Man 2. Is the Frenchman giving us fact, or just more fiction? I’ll let you be the judge of that.

The DoG source, who spoke to Leterrier during Marvel Night at the Grand Rex in Paris earlier this month, states that the director confirmed to him that Iron Man 2 is currently underway, with a script being written by director Jon Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. If that’s true, it’s a relief to know that after all those rumors of major turmoil behind the scenes over at Marvel, Ol’ Shell-head is back safe in the hands of the men who made him a hit in the first place. (Does that mean that Tropic of Thunder writer Justin Theroux isn’t handling the script as rumored?

The DoG source also claims that Leterrier hinted that a previously unseen Avengers character will be making a cameo appearance in Iron Man 2, a la Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury appearance at the end of Iron Man. Could we see one of the A-list stars Marvel is said to be courting for the roles of both Captain America and Thor? Only time and the rumor-mill will tell.

Finally, the big drop: the DoG source, via Leterrier, confirms that Ed Norton, Robert Downey Jr., Sam Jackson and the rest of the A-list cast filling out Cap and Thor’s tights will all be on board to bring Avengers to the big screen in 2011! (Oh lord, let your glory be great that such a fantasy might become reality!)

Again, these source of a source type deals can only be taken with a LARGE grain of salt. However, who wants to play the pessimist in this case? I sure don’t. With Comic Con ’08 set to get underway, perhaps Marvel will get fan fervor going and make an official announcement regarding all these rumors. Keep your eyes posted on the Con, and while you wait for the good news, take a minute to rant back to us with your thoughts.

Iron Man 2 and Thor are still set for 2010 release; The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers are both slated for 2011 release.

  1. Great news!!!
Glad to hear that Norton is on board, everything else seems to be falling into place.

  2. FANTASTIC! Great news!!!

  3. I just think Letterier likes shooting his mouth off and maybe is trying to see what kind of buzz this rumor generates…

  4. Exciting, but I really wish they would change the name of the Captain America movie.

  5. Hey green, I had the same thought.

  6. um, I’m a little lost here, what character would Sam Jackson be playing? And I am assuming that that is the Great Samuel Jackson? Hopefully all the egos can handle it, this would be a great movie if done right and not OVER marketed! Looking forward to it, and ya I think the dude is just fishing for what types of responses the buzz creates too…….

  7. Dannyboy, Sam will be playing Nick Fury,,
In Iron Man after the credits there was a scene that introduced him to Tony Stark. Check the dvd when it comes out in a few months. ;-)

    im so excited! lol

The only thing im worried about is that im not longer on the brad pitt leo decaprio wagon, i guess Pitt cold do Thor, but Leo as Cap, Its wayy too far off from his actual character even though I love the guy

  9. Excellent hints here at what’s to come from the house of Marvel.
    Rock on!!!

  10. I’m abit worried, why would anyone even consider de caprio as flippin captain america??

  11. no de caprio,
i say Colin Ferguson from eureka.
    fits the part of CAP.
    seriously google him.

  12. I don’t like the De Caprio rumor but I have to say it’s a lot better than the Brad Pitt as Thor Rumor that was going around. I’m a Thor and Avengers film, but if he was cast I wouldn’t watch either. I don’t hate Pitt or anything, but lets be honest he is no Thor.

  13. this is the cast they should have for the avengers movie…
    iron man- robert downey jr.
    incredible hulk- edward norton
    thor- triple h(from WWE)
captain america- thomas jane(since he doesnt have his own punisher franchise since he left)
    nick fury- samuel l jackson

  15. Thomas Jane would make an awesome Cap. If the Hulk is in the movie, they will have to go out of their way to reintroduce him as the vengeful/frightening Hulk. TIH portrayed the character as very much the hero and very sympathetic, except Norton’s scene at the end. That can be tricky with the audience that is unfamiliar with Hulk comics.

  16. So…I was talking to Kevin Smith last night, and when I asked him who was going to be in the Avengers film, he said RDJ as Iron man, Ed Norton as Banner, Captain America-Ben Affleck. Thor-Ben Affleck. Ant-man and Wasp- you guessed it, Ben Affleck. Funny guy. Unhealthy obsession with Ben Affleck though. Of course he’s not famous for his wondeful ability to cast amazingly talented actors, though. Just thought I’d share with fellow fans.

  17. @The Hunter

Dude, you crack me up. :-)

  18. Give me a job then. Haha. I’d love to do this for a living. Talk about two of my favorite subjects-comics and movies. The only way it could get any better is if they ask me to write the comics or movies, and maybe a comic-book movie.

  19. HOW ABOUT DWAYNE (THE FORMER ROCK) JOHNSON AS CAP. He already has the build and the height. Pitt and DeCap are great actors but come on they are little shrimps trying to play a LOBSTER.

  20. GIJOEMAN,,,
I disagree with the Rock playing a superhero, but lol, on Decaprio and Pitt being shrimps… 8-)

  21. Wow!!! This is such a big fantasy, I’ll be thankful to the heavens if it pushes through!! Woot!

  22. I put the Rock as Wonder Man aka Simon Williams. The similarities are Uncanny. I put Paul Walker(granted a beefier version of him) as Cap. He’d have to do the CHristian Bale diet(the Machinist) to play pre-serum Rogers, then bulk back up(like Bale did within a year to play Batman) so he can be the world’s greatest hero. But, I could see it.

  23. @Huntthejest

Wow, GREAT pick! I think Dwayne Johnson would make a great Wonder Man with the whole celebrity personality angle.

  24. I hate the idea of Paul Walker personally I find him to be a terrible actor.

  25. You hate it now. Just wait. He’ll dazzle. At one point, I didn’t think Heath Ledger was that good of an actor. All it takes is one great role to prove otherwise.

  26. Meh first time I saw Heath I thought he was great. Heath may not have done a lot of amazing performances for you, but he never did terribly. Paul Walker has consistently been terrible in every film.

  27. Seen Running Scared or Life of Bobby Z? Definitely different side to Mr. Walker.
