Don Cheadle's return as War Machine in Untitled Avengers appears to have been confirmed thanks to Gwyenth Paltrow. Marvel Studios may have several other films hitting theaters first, but one of their current priorities is one of the final films of Phase 3. Avengers 4 is currently filming in Atlanta and has been for a few weeks, well ahead of its 2019 release. Thanks to the back-to-back filming schedule Marvel is using for Avengers: Infinity War and its follow-up, principal photography on the fourth Avengers movie should be completed over a year before it will be seen in theaters.

These two movies, previously set to be a two-part epic, have been touted as the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to this point. In doing so, almost every single Marvel character will be making an appearance in either or both installments. Now, it appears we can add Cheadle's name to the growing cast list of Untitled Avengers.

THR recently did an in-depth interview with Gwyenth Paltrow and asked her about her ongoing acting career. She recently made her return to the MCU with a brief appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and has already been confirmed to be part of Avengers 4. But, as she discussed what it was like filming her second Avengers movie, she appears to have confirmed Cheadle's involvement.

I went to Atlanta to do Avengers 4, so I'm in and out for that, and it's weird to go back and forth. We're growing fast, and balls are dropping all the time. But honestly, I was on set and thought, "You sit here for two hours sipping tea, Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle are making me laugh hysterically — why the hell did I give this up?"

Captain America Civil War - Iron Man and War Machine

Cheadle's return is not terribly surprising as it continues to sound as if almost everybody will be in the film, but it is the first confirmation we have that he'll be one of those to make a return. Audiences last saw Rhodey struggling to walk after his crash in Captain America: Civil War left him paralyzed, so there is no telling if his return here will include him suiting up. However, it does further highlight a reunion for the Iron Man franchise with Robert Downey Jr. obviously starring as Iron Man, Paltrow back as Pepper Potts, and even Jon Favreau returning as Happy Hogan alongside Cheadle.

This latest casting confirmation comes on the heels of Sebastian Stan confirming his return as well. In addition to both of these, Brie Larson was recently spotted arriving to the set for the first time, marking the first time she has presumably ever been on a Marvel set and played Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. As more and more castings are made known, the ensemble for Untitled Avengers will continue to become even more impressive.
