The buzz around D23 is building for a potentially big Avengers: Infinity War announcement, with Thanos’ assembled Infinity Gauntlet being the source. Thanos has so far unproven as an MCU big-bad, losing Infinity Stones rather than gaining them. But, that will all change with Infinity War when he completely assembles the Infinity Gauntlet and unlocks its full power. With the Time, Reality, Power, Space, Mind, and Soul Stones in his possession, Thanos is set to flip the Marvel Cinematic Universe upside down.

While Thanos’ arrival has been highly anticipated, many are already bracing for the costly reality of the Mad Titan arriving and killing off a few MCU heroes. However, with one of the abilities of the Gauntlet being the power to manipulate reality, could it actually be the source of Marvel Studios’ latest superhero crossover?

Anthony Breznican of EW shared a mysterious tweet just hours before the live-action panel for D23 begins, the same panel where Infinity War and other Marvel projects will be discussed. His tweet “theorizes” that the Gauntlet could allow for Marvel Studios to gain access to other superheroes they’ve previously not used, or possibly don’t even have the rights to.

This could very well just be a journalist speculating about what he hopes is revealed during the panel, but EW is also highly connected to the studios. They are the outlet that routinely gets to debut new images for upcoming blockbusters – just like they did with Black Panther – so if anyone may have the inside scoop, it could be them. This is far from definitive proof that this theory will prove to be true, but is still one that will get fans’ minds racing.

The biggest and most requested “crossover” that MCU fans have been asking for is for Marvel Studios to regain access to the Fantastic Four. The Infinity Gauntlet having the ability to manipulate realities could allow for a pre-existing, veteran Fantastic Four team to be brought in from a different universe to help defeat Thanos. Marvel’s just proven what they can do with their own characters that other studios have control over in Spider-Man: Homecoming, so maybe Fox is looking to make a deal as well. Altering reality to make this happen could allow for the deal to be done on a trial basis, with the Fantastic Four staying in the MCU if things work, but get sent back to the other reality if not.

With the panel set to kick off later today, it will not be long before we know whether or not this tease turns out to be something more. But, in the meantime, speculate away in the comments below and stay tuned to Screen Rant for further updates.
