This week saw the release of the first official poster featuring all of the heroes (and their primary foes) of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Outside of the teaser trailers, some artwork and a limited number of stills and behind-the-scenes photos, the one-sheet was the first official reveal of the entire team, in costume, from Marvel Studios.
A day later, franchise poster boy Robert Downey Jr. shared a new poster, this one featuring just him as Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man accompanied by news that Marvel would have a major announcement next week. The day after, Mark Ruffalo shared his own poster featuring the Hulk and so began a pattern which seemed to indicate daily character images leading up to this mysterious announcement. But then today Samuel L. Jackson released three new Avengers 2 posters!
Below are the three latest character posters for Avengers: Age of Ultron, featuring individual glances at Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Click to enlarge:
Nick Fury is back in his leather trench coat, eye patch and all, after the events of Captain America: The Winter soldier which saw him head incognito on some secret mission to Europe, and Thor remains on Earth after the events of Thor: The Dark World. It’s business as usual for these two in their costumes, loyal as ever to the protection of Earth and their fellow Avengers. As for Black Widow, she gets a major costume upgrade thanks to Stark Industries, which sees her sporting a Tron-esque powered suit which allows her to direct energy blasts via her melee and wrist-mounted weapons.
If we’re keeping track, this means we can expect Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Captain America (Chris Evans) posters to release potentially over the weekend or early next week, followed by new characters Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and inevitably, the first official high-res look at Vision (Paul Bettany). For all we know, Ultron (James Spader), Baron von Strucker (Thomas Krestchmann) and other supporting characters could get their own posters as well much like the first movie.
Which poster is your favorite so far?
Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.
