Avengers 2 Characters Kevin Feige Talks New Characters in Avengers 2

During the Avengers panel at New York Comic-Con this past weekend, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had to field several questions about a topic that fans are already buzzing about: Where does the Marvel Movie Universe go next, once The Avengers is finished its run in theaters?

In addition to what Feige said during the panel about possible Marvel Cosmic projects like Guardians of the Galaxy, he also dropped word that Avengers 2 will likely feature a different team roster than the first film.

IGN was able to get the scoop when they asked Feige direct if we would be seeing some different Avengers in the next film – to which Feige responded:

“Absolutely. That’s the fun of it — introducing new characters. Seeing: ‘How will things change after Iron Man goes through his next adventure? After Thor goes through his next adventure? If we do another Cap adventure, how will things change? The dynamic between them? Their own worlds? So that the dynamic in Avengers 2 is actually quite different than it is in the first one.”

Now, on the surface, this is a no-brainer: Marvel has signed a lot of the actors in The Avengers to multi-film contracts, yes. On the other hand, there are actors in the cast  (like Robert Downey Jr.) who will have been working on Marvel projects for over half a decade by the time Avengers 2 even begins pre-production; Downey could (and will likely) want to move on to other things.

Equally real is the fact that A) the general movie going public could be ready for some new blood in Avengers 2 (Black Panther, Hank Pym, Wasp), and B) Marvel is probably going to be expanding their universe anyway, trying to introduce characters like Dr. Strange and/or Ant-Man.

Will Cap be back? Will Panther Assemble for duty?

Then there’s C) the fact that the introduction of new characters and new stories for established characters (in sequels like Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain America 2), will change the entire circumstances of Marvel’s movie world. In that sense, the Avengers sequel could, say, have Tony Stark as an administrator for S.H.I.E.L.D., or some metahuman liaison to the government, rather than playing an active role in the team  (cue brief RDJ cameo and War Machine replacement).

The only question is: which Avengers would assemble for the sequel, and which ones would be missing from active duty?

Which knew Avengers would YOU like to see in the sequel?

The Avengers will be in theaters on May 4, 2012.

The Avengers 2 doesn’t have a solid release date yet, but we do know Marvel is currently planning to have another major film event in 2017.

  1. Wonder Man, Vision, Scarlett Witch, Ant Man, QuickSilver, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Cap.

    • havnt u been following the rights issue Scarlett Witch and QuickSilver wont never be in Avengers or Marvel Studio movies since FOX Studio own the rights to them.

  2. Black Panther, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch

    • geez why everyone keep on mentioning Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch they wont be in Avengers at all. Marvel dont have the rights to the character they belong to FOX Studio.

  3. Spider-Man as part of the Avengers would be sweet.

    • not gonna happen anytime soon, sony (unfortunately) owns the right to him so we wont be seeing him in a proper marvel movie until spiderman starts flopping in the box office (which is highly unlikely since he’s a poster boy for marvel thus people will flood in to watch him, regardless of whether he’s in a reboot, sequel/prequel etc).

      • I say…anything’s possible-I’d rather pay to see spiderman in the avengers 2 than an ant-man…if I see a frickin ant-looking thing in the avengers, I won’t give my money to that movie. no chance. I’m kind of laughing at how hard marvel is trying to push an antman movie and dc pushing for aqua man…Some comic book characters cannot handle the big screen.

      • Actually, there was talk of bringing Spider-man into the film as a way of doing a company crossover, but the Kevin Fiege doubted it will ever happen.

    • spider-man would work so well in an ensemble cast like the avengers,

does marvel not own the rights to make movies with him or something like that?

      • Yeah they can if Marvel and Sony make partnership like they did with Disney I know Sony will give them rights to spider-man it will be their on advantage cuz MMovieU is expanding if they make partnership that might happen!

        • Spider-Man is only in the Avengers comics (as well as Wolverine) to make money. He´s a terrible Avenger. And so is Wolverine. He doesn´t need to be in every other books Marvel puts out. And I don´t wanna see him in an Avengers movie. I mean, he´s 16 (in the new movie), can you imagine a 16 year old boy within the ranks of a god, a super-soldier, an armored genius, etc? That´s like having a 16 year old kid in a SWAT team.

          • I like how they did it in the Ultimates. Sort of grooming him to one day take Captain America’s place.

          • Yea I can. And both of them are better than Captain America. And Black Widow and Hawkeye.

            Captain America:
-Throws his shield at Spiderman. Spiderman dodges said shield. Problem?

-Throws his shield at Wolverine. Considering the shield’s made of vibranium and Wolverine’s bones are covered in adamantium, I don’t think it would make much of a problem – would bounce off his head or he would catch it. Problem?

-Spiderman moves fast enough to dodge gunshots (before the people aim and shoot at him). That means he’s probably fast enough to dodge a slow arrow too.
-Hawkeye shoots Wolverine. Wolverine just chills and lets himself get shot for the sake of just saving energy: Adamantium bones block vital organs; super healing power clears up the remaining scratch.

            Black Widow:
-Spiderman dodges ALL of her little bullets. Takes her gunz away and shoots “webbing” (wink wink) into her face.

-Wolverine just lets himself get shot as he has his way with her…he’s a feisty fella.

So yeah I think Spiderman and Wolverine can do much better than, what’s that? Half the Avengers? Yeah.

  4. Black Panther

either in a solo film or see his story interwoven with Captain American 2, since they already introduced vibranium maybe they work a Wakanda mission into Cap 2.

hope they get the casting right, someone with a super deep voice and a good african accent.

i know he was already in Thor but Idris Elba would be awesome, other than that Derek Luke or Wood Harris would be cool.

    • Mr. Eko from Lost, dont know how to spell the actors name but he would be perfect.

      • good call! his name is Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and i definitely agree.

he seems like the go to actor for African/English villains, it would be nice to see him as the prince of wakanda.

way better than boobie miles or julius from remember the titans haha

    • Luke was in CA.

      • I think Derek Luke would be good choice. He can pull off the western influenced look to T’challa.

    • I think that Black Panther is custom made for Michael Jai White. He already has the immense martial arts background, the physical stature, the voice and presence to carry the character with the right script.

  6. Bucky!

  7. I like Vision, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Hawkeye would definitely need to stay, as well as Cap.

    • Quicksilver will not make an appearence anytime soon since fox owns the rights to anything xmen mutant related.

  8. My interest in an “Avengers 2″ would drop dramatically if Cap wasn’t involved. All that matters to me is that he remains a part of it.

  9. Luke cage!!!!!!

  10. Sorry, but Ant-Man, Hank Pym is the most important figure in the Avengers. He created the Quinjet, he created the Avengers most dangeroius villains Ultron, and in a way created Vision.

The rest I named was the late 80’s Avengers.

    • I thought IronMan created Ultron!

      • It was both pym and stark that came up with ultron.

      • I vote Doc Strange , Hank Pym , Janet , also I think Namor would be a nice asset, and Black panther – there are quite a few that could be added to the list.

    • The Quinjet used primarily by the Avengers for transportation, the quinjet is first designed by the Wakanda Design Group, headed by Black Panther, T’Challa. This is from the Marvel Database.

  11. WAR MACHINE maybe, Ant-man and The Wasp im sure is gonna be in sequel

  12. What comic is that Cap pic from?

    • Must be some recent Ultimate comic…

  13. theres one problem using Ant Man would he be a live person or CGI
I still want an Avenger vs Justice League but I hvnt seen one movie
yet this year hve to buy Green Latern,Cap’n America and Thor on dvd .
I still want to see you guys put your egos aside and do crossovers,my
favorite is still or would be Iron Man vs Superman or use two characters
from the same studio like Spider-Man vs Hulk or Batman vs Superman neither
one would be awesome baby .

    • The Avengers VS JL that would never happen it will take DC and WB years to make solo for secondary characters besides they won’t their rivalry is tougher than toughest!

    • IM vs. Superman? I think a better fight would be Hulk or Thor vs. Superman. As strong as IM’s armor is, I don’t think it would last long against Supes.

we all know he’d make an awesome movie adaptation…

  15. NO I WANT IRONMAN IN THE AVENGERS 2!!! IF RDJ doesn’t return as IronMan than i’m not going to see it lots of fans will pass it in Marvel Movie U IronMan is the well-known and most loved character I hope he returns in The Avengers, I would like to Black Panther in TA2 though but we will portray him?
I wish Spider-man could have been TA2 why can’t the Marvel make partnership with sony in this way he could be in and i damn sure Sony will let it becuz they this is becoming Big franchise (Biggest and Best Comic book Movie franchise) it will be their on benefit!

  16. Definitely Hank Pym (Giant Man/Ant Man), Wasp, Black Panther, & Vision…. Wonder Man, Doc Strange, and War Machine are good second options (I only mention Doc Strange cause he’s been rumored to have a film or something upcoming).

I’m pretty sure Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch are out due to Fox owning the film rights to pretty much all the mutants, I’m sure that Magneto’s kids will be off limits. Sony owns Spider-Man so he’ll be unavailable, and Universal has the Fantastic Four, so no appearances by them or the Silver Surfer. Punisher, Dare Devil, Ghost Rider, and Blade are also unusable characters

  17. Will hulk, black widow and hawkeye be in the avengers sequel? There only talking about iron man,Thor and captain America joining avengers 2

    • You’re absolutely right, dude. It’s like they have forgotten about the hulk completely. In every interview, they only talk about Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. They are already thinking about the Avengers 2 but the have not breathed a word about the second hulk movie. Marvel, remember, the hulk is an equal part of the Avengers as the other superheroes are. I’m suprised that NOT even ONE site has recognised their ignorance about the second hulk movie. If they talk about hulk, then, they talk about the TV series only. I’m really planning to see if the Hulk is well-recieved in the Avengers. Maybe then, they might think about a new Hulk film. I hope to see a new hulk film before the Avengers 2 releases.

      • I think the reason for this is because they want to see how the audience will react to Mark Ruffalo’s preformence. I really don’t think they have “forgotten” the HULK.

  18. Hank & Jan Pym are a must. Black Panther & Vision would be cool. Keep Hawkeye and Black Widow.

  19. So, speaking as someone whose main Marvel exposure comes from the X-books and Iron Man, why do so many people seem to want Ant Man? Nothing against the character (since I know next to nothing about him), I’m just genuinely interested. What’s his appeal to you all?

    • Ant man is the original leader of the avengers. He put the team together along with hulk, Thor, ironman and wasp. He’s also one of the cornerstone characters in the entire marvel universe. To me and alot of others, it just doesnt make sense to exclude him from the team. He may not be one of the most popular character, but he’s an essential piece of the marvel puzzle.

  21. Black panther and ant man!!

  22. No Namor, No Dr. Strange for The Avengers. Let’s stick with some of the team members that made them famous: Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Goliath (Hank Pym), Wasp, Cap, and Hawkeye as the team (but Hawkeye needs to wear his 60s blue/purple costume, & Goliath his yellow/blue costume, cuz those looked great!). I would also include iron Man in the team as well, as he and cap have always been about the most important main tent-poles of the team. (I don’t count alot of the later stuff, just the 60s and maybe early 70s). While Black Panther was not all that bad, I am not sure we need to include him just so liberals who style themselves as the only “politically correct” people in town could claim they had put in their black guy (I don’t mean to sound biased, but that is alot of short-sighted people’s reasoning; actually, I did not mind him and his dignified hero bearing in the comics at all, plus I did not mind the black Capt. Marvel all that much). If you had to have someone way off the wall, uh, Moon Knight!? As for villains, let’s see Mandarin (unless he ends up–hopefully–in Iron Man 3), Ultron, & Kang.

    • You think the only reason we want the Black Panther is because he’s black?
You’re mistaken mate… the Black Panther is one of the most awesome heroes around: THAT’S why we want him — race has nothing to do with it IMO.

Also, I don’t recall the Mandarin ever really being an Avengers villain??
He was Iron Man’s arch-nemesis, but never really fought the Avengers that much…

        • Vibranium did get a weak introduction into the myths. Just laying around in some bunker? We couldn’t get a Wakanda or Africa mention

          • Actually at the end of iron man 2 where tony stark was talking to nick fury about his status on the team you can see a map with different locations on them including: the artic(cap), new mexico(thor), Africa(black panther), and I forgot the one for the hulk but I also believe that they had something in the atlantic for namor. This is confirmed by the special features of the iroman 2 blu ray disc.

  23. Wonder Man………. so they can kill him off. Gotta have Wasp and Scarlett Witch. Maybe even She – Hulk? Falcon maybe…….

    • That was hilarious. just to kill him off. lol

  24. I want Vision SO badly but to get him requires a long sequence of events to happen first. Best case scenario they would have to devote Avengers 2 entirely to the Ultron story arc which would give us Vision at the end.

I would say ditch Black Widow and Hulk and add in Hank Pym (Ant-Man/Giant -Man), Janet (Wasp) and Black Panther.

    • Forgot to add: i don’t want Marvel to completely ditch the Hulk, they should make a sequel to TIH – and have him in his own adventure once again.
–After all, in the comics, the Hulk was only part of the Avengers for like a few issues.

      • I think , the hulk is here to stay in the movie universe.

    • I don’t wanna see Ultron and evil Ultron introduced in the same film. Too clichè.

I would have Antman solo introduce Ultron as a working project. Avengers 2 Ultron is completed thanks to Stark funding and assisted genius. Ultron Army is used in battle against Avengers 2 threat (master of evil). Maybe Red Skull (or echantress) returns with an army from Asgardian Mythos. Avengers 3 has Ultron (humanity’s own tool) become humanity’s greatest threat ever.

  25. The WHIZZER. Lol jk.

  26. Iron Man and Thor have to be in the Avengers 2, they made the most at the box office out of all the 4 especially Iron Man. So dropping those 2 would be a big mistake

    • Indeed !
