Before the second Avatar trailer hits (which is apparently “soon”), we have six new high-res images from the film, by way of SpoilerTV, for your viewing pleasure. Even if some people were left disappointed by our first proper look at Avatar by way of the first ever trailer released in August (let’s try and forget the trailer accessibility fiasco…), I am still on the “Avatar looks great” bandwagon and these latest images only further that feeling.
The six new Avatar images are mostly shots of the blue Na’vi creatures which inhabit Avatar’s planet, Pandora, as well as Sam Worthington’s Jake Skully as his Avatar. But it’s always great to see more and/or better shots of them in all their CGI glory (get past the strangeness… they look awesome, people!). On top of those, there are also a couple of new non-CGI images which show off some of the human cast which includes Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez.

i knew it had something to do with ALIENS!!!!!
The first high rez shot is pretty but I think I just realized why I’m not that impressed overall so far…it’s always easier to make aliens and such CGI because you can modify their physiology to suit whatever need you want. However, if you do a CGI human then you have to include things like skin moving as we breathe or corners of the eye folding as we blink or squint. The technology just isn’t there to succesfully recreate that in CGI.
Na’vi chicks….would you?….I would!
For a minute I forgot it was CGI. this looks fantastic.

I thought the first trailer was good enough for me; not great but good. And like you said, we haven’t seen it in it’s normal state (3D IMAX).
I don’t know about the “face hugger” thingy; it might be but am not sure. I don’t care, just knock my socks off Cameron. Well, not my real socks because, you know, the smell and…..oh, never mind.
Compare these shots to the Navi in the trailer we got. Not as bright and much more texturing. I think the theory that the CG in the trailer was unfinished have been proven from these shots. I can’t tell the CG from these shots, look more like practical effects by Stan Winston.

Dude…If Transformers did as good as it did with that garbage script and poopy direction, I think Avatar will be okay.

I agree about the screen shots. They DO appear to be much more highly renedered than the trailer. Let’s hope. Looking forward to it.

Yah, watching the trailer, it looked like they were a little too bright, making it hard for your mind to believe they are physically there. But from these screenshots, I can’t really tell just by looking at them, even though I know in my mind that they are all CG… Looks pretty good… But what really matters is the story, and hopefully James Cameron doesn’t let us down there…
It’s going to be good regardless of the trailer. I can’t recall James Cameron ever letting us down before and with all of the amazing feedback he’s gotten from his colleagues I’m with great certainty that the story and the special effects will be there, because no one does it better than him.
These screen shots look far superior to the trailers quality though.
I just put these up on my Elite 150fd and….HOLY MONKEY!! Stunning…simply stunning!
