The Assassin’s Creed series will be expanding into the small screen as the TV series is set to arrive. This will feature the lore of the franchise, bringing plot points in a story that has already seen more than several important events take place.

Due to this, it’s hard to see the TV show ignore the vital aspects of the series. This means viewers will need to be aware of established arcs to avoid being surprised or be clueless when something significant comes up. For this reason, it’s best to brush up on the most important plotlines the games have already detailed.

The First Civilization Reincarnations As Sages

The Ones That Came Before or The First Civilization are the original species of Earth who had technology that would seem futuristic by modern standards. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla went further by depicting these as beings from legend, including Odin, Loki, among others.

The story showed how the Isu can have Sages, their own reincarnations as humans but also containing DNA of their original forms. These Sages were reincarnated with memories of their past lives and could choose to embrace their original personality. It's one of the unresolved storylines the TV series can explore and expand upon.

Absertgo Using The Memories Of Past Assassins

Animus

Abstergo is a front for the modern-day Templars, who have created a multinational company in order to extend its influence worldwide and even in space. After learning that the Assassins had more knowledge than them, Abstergo created the Animus and kidnapped descendants of assassins.

The purpose of this is to explore the memories of their ancestors and learn their secrets. Desmond Miles was kidnapped in Assassin’s Creed, being forced to live through the lives of Altair Ibn la Ahadn, Ezio Auditore, and Connor Kenway. In the 2016 movie, Callum Lynch was forced to relive his ancestor Aguilar de Nerha’s life.

Human Uprising Against The First Civilization

The impact of past events is much like what’s found in Game of Thrones and other period works. However, Assassin’s Creed II explored the past to reveal that Adam and Eve were actually the first humans to go launch a resistance against the First Civilization.

This was done so that the humans could finally free themselves of the control the Isu had on them and be liberated from their lives as slaves. It kickstarted the war between both species, which lasted until the world-ending catastrophe.

Continuous Disasters Threatening The World

The overall arc of the entire series is for the protagonists to uncover a way to stop the world from ending yet again. The first catastrophe happened when a solar flare destroyed the original humans and the Isu, with another set for 2012.

This was averted when Desmond sacrificed himself to protect the world from another catastrophe, only for the Earth to be threatened again from 2020 onwards. This time, Layla Hassan took it upon herself to find a way to save the world.

The Worldwide Establishment Of Assassin Bureaus

Ezio Auditore's Hidden Blades in Assassin's Creed

The establishment of the creed is such that certain games are worthy of being adapted into movies to explore this story further. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood brought this forward, with Ezio deciding to expand the assassins’ activities by starting bureaus around Europe.

This proved to be instrumental in the long-run, as Desmond and the assassins in the future were able to hide from the Templars by hiding out in select locations. It also enabled the creed to extend its reach worldwide.

The Pieces Of Eden Pursued By The Templars

Assassin's Creed Apple Eden

The Templars’ main motive in the entire series has been to acquire Pieces of Eden, objects of great technology created by the First Civilization to control and even harm humans. Creating the Animus was mainly done in order to find these items.

Part of the reason why the 2016 movie doesn’t deserve a sequel is that the film focused too much on this aspect. Regardless, this point is the most significant plotline for the Templars in the games, as numerous figures across time have tried to use the Pieces of Eden.

Juno And The Sage's Schemes

Juno

The lackluster presentation of this story has resulted in several memes making fun of the series, but the plotline did dominate the Desmond Miles Saga. It involved the Isu Juno manipulating the assassins by guiding them toward her vault with the promise of helping to avert the oncoming catastrophe.

She did so by using the Sage Aita, her husband, a man who was reincarnated hundreds of times across the centuries to orchestrate events to lead to her return. While she does come back in Assassin’s Creed III, Juno’s ultimately unsuccessful and killed off in a comic book storyline.

The Hidden Ones Being The First Incarnation Of The Assassin's Creed

As far as the chronology of the formation of the creed is concerned, the starting point is Assassin’s Creed Origins. Here, the story told of how Bayek of Siwa went through a journey of discovery and ended up forming the Hidden Ones to combat the Order of the Ancients.

The villainous faction was the original incarnation of the Templars, while the Hidden Ones went on to become the Assassin’s Creed. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is also set during the Hidden Ones’ timeline while the modern-day creed was formed a century before the events of the first Assassin’s Creed.

Altair Bringing The Assassins Back To The Shadows

One of the mistakes the 2016 movie committed was not putting much focus on the assassins’ backstory. This was best shown in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, where Altair realized that making the creed public -- as it had been during its stay at Masyaf -- was inviting sieges from the Templars.

To avoid this in the future, Altair instructed the assassins to abandon Masyaf and become hidden in the shadows from there on out. As of modern times, the assassins continue to be considered an inactive faction while continuing their fight against the Templars in secret.

Desmond And Layla Chosen To Save The World

It’s likely these two might feature in the TV series, as Desmond and Layla are supposed to be the people who save the world. Desmond became a being called the Reader after his death in Assassin’s Creed III, and he was joined by Layla later on.

The ending of Assassin's Creed Valhalla had Layla also become trapped with Desmond and willingly look for a way to stop the next catastrophe from destroying the Earth. Their parting shot confirmed their fate to be the saviors of the world.
