‘Scary Movie 5′ Lands Ashley Tisdale For Leading Role

Former Disney Channel star Ashley Tisdale has seen her young career go down multiple paths while putting in work for the über-popular network. But, in a world where you can become type-cast faster than you can say ‘Jaleel White,’ one must eventually branch off from her roots and attempt to sprout a new path. So, is Ashley Tisdale ready to head into the world of spoof comedy?

Dimension Film’s has announced the casting of the actress as one of the leads for the forthcoming Scary Movie 5. Malcolm Lee (Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins) will direct the project, while David Zucker, who directed the 3rd and 4th Scary Movie films is co-writing and producing the 5th.

Before Tisdale tackles her new role she will be donning the producer hat for the Bravo show Miss Advised. The show will be produced through Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions and will air on June 18, 2012.

The original Scary Movie was released in 2000 and throughout the franchise’s history the films have spoofed a number of horror movies, from The Exorcist, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer to Saw.

Anna Faris won’t be back for ‘Scary Movie 5′.

Franchise star Anna Faris (The Dictator), recently turned down the opportunity to headline the latest chapter of the franchise, thus opening the door for Tisdale to step in. While many would argue that the Scary Movie franchise lost a lot of its luster after the first two films, one can’t deny that Faris’ ability to pull off the goofy female protagonist was a bright spot throughout. Whether or not Tisdale will be able to pull off such a role remains to be seen.

Tisdale joins High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens on a growing line of actors/actresses who have found success with the Disney network – but are now slowly trying to distance themselves from the brand in order to begin new chapters in their professional lives. Of course, money (especially Disney money) talks, so would we really be surprised if we saw Tisdale in a potential College Musical? Probably not.

  1. First thought when I saw this…. That’s gonna suck.

    • that doesn’t matter. these films aren’t exactly watched by (dumb) people for their quality.

      • Thats a bit harsh isnt it? There are several people that enjoy the first two (really the first one) because its actually hilarious and on point in humor. The other are a decline and proof of hollywood milking the ideas to death.

To say that dumb people watch them is an insult

  2. this movie’s gonna PHAIL!

    • this movie’s gonna PHAIL!!

      • had to double comment, i forgot to use my proper Name

  3. just rehire the waynes cause the movies sucked without them shorty was the best.

    • the waynes are coming back to this movie

  4. Haha! For some reason when I scanned the title I thought it read “Scream 5 Lands Ashley Tisdale For Leading Role” and I was about to throw a hissy fit because I’m a fan of the series and hope someday a 5th will happen. Yeah I know about the MTV series but one can still dream.
Anyways… Now that I’ve read it correctly and read the article I’m relieved but to be honest Scary Movie 5 sounds pretty bad no matter who is cast. Maybe it could get lucky and they’ll make a film that is kind of funny like the 1st and parts of the 2nd but based off the last 2 it’s going to be an uphill battle.

    • Well I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who thought that. I was like “REALLY?!” and then started reading and wasn’t until it said “spoof” that i realized it was scary movie not scream.

  5. Well, I’m willing to give Tisdale (I’ve never really seen anything she’s been in) the benefit of the doubt that she can ring some laughs from the material. Isn’t the old saying “a good comedian can make the phone book funny”? A lot of good comedians were able to get some laughs out of the lightweight material given in these films.

My dream supporting cast since we now have a lead: Tim Curry, Harrison Ford (as the bumbling, dunderheaded US president) and Betty White.

    • Totally agree. Wish everyone would give her the benefit of the doubt, even if some of the previous films weren’t so good.

  6. I’d love to see her in a real horror flick: one or two sexy scenes with her in some skimpy clothes, followed by a serial killer brutally chopping off her head…
    Too dark? ;)

  7. I loved the first 2 films, when the Wayans Brothers were involved it was hilarious, then they just got sad. Bring back the Wayans and you got me hooked.

  8. “Lost it’s luster?” It only got good when Zucker got involved!

  9. I loved the 1st Scary Movie. Shorty was the best. After the 1st it just didn’t really work for me. WASSUP!!! LOL

  10. the first scary movie was good, 2 was the worst in my opinion, and i actually enjoyed 3 & 4… and i’ve loved everything that Tisdale’s been in so far (Phineas & Ferb being the best… even though it’s animated) so I look forward to seeing this.

  11. You are being so rude to her. Celebs are people too, and they deserve to live a life where everyone isn’t dissing their every move. I think Ashley’s lovely. She’s 26, so let her live her life. Let her be. I believe that anything with Ashley is amazing, even if you don’t like the rest of the Scary Movies. Give her a chance, guys.

    • Hell yea!!! she’s great at everything she does

      • plus she’s hot as hell even at her recently changed age of 27

    • Absolutely!
As far as WE’RE ALL concern….
Ashley Tisdale’s doin a very good job.

  12. Ashley Tisdale looks alot like a young Gina Gershon in that photo.

  13. It’s truly amazing that they are able to keep churning these movies out every few years, and they still keep making money.

  14. poopy

  15. These films are nothing without the Wayans. Sorry. Its obvious. The comedy has become less snark and more obvious, blatant, in-your-face look I made a funny movie. Let go of this franchise.

  16. I am going to reiterate what some have already said. The films are nothing without the Wayans. 3 and 4 were lacking due to this fact alone.

  17. They Should Just cancel The Film now.

  18. Everyone, Ashley Tisdale (Jody) is doing the lead, Anna Faris stepped out due to Pregnancy. We are all sure she will be back as lovable Cindy for Scary Movie 6. I reckon Ashley will do great. SCARY MOVIE 4EVER. Ashley Tisdale or Anna Faris?

  19. What a sick fxcking joke.
