After a long period of uncertainty, a February 2018 premiere date has been confirmed for Ash vs. Evil Dead season 3. A post from the official Twitter account of the hit horror/comedy TV series states the time and the place when 'The Chosen One' will return to Starz - and as suspected by many loyal fans, it isn't going to be during the remaining months of 2017.

The uber-gory series was developed by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, and Tom Spezialy for the Starz network, with season 1 airing in October 2015. It came after many years of Bruce Campbell fans campaigning for the 'groovy' actor to return to his iconic role of clumsy action-hero Ash Williams. A direct sequel to Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy, it follows a middle-aged Ash still fighting the Deadites and the forces from the Necronomicon, but now aided by his feisty sidekicks Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo). Immediately embraced by horror fans for its enthusiastic gore and wacky humor, season 3 was confirmed by Starz back in October 2016. Since then though, the actual date for airing has been something of a puzzle, with even Campbell being unsure when it was going to happen.

Happily, all the conjecture can now be put to rest, as the official Twitter account for the show has posted a brand new banner for season 3, which includes the premiere date of 2/25. You can check it out below:

The man. The myth. The hell? Go back to school with #AshvsEvilDead, premiering 2/25 on @STARZ. pic.twitter.com/dooBBbifV6— Ash vs Evil Dead (@AshvsEvilDead) October 5, 2017

The image on the banner is intriguing, especially given the number of rumors about what directions this new season will take. When we left Ash at the end of season 2, all seemed well. The world had been saved (again), and he was the hero of his hometown Elk Grove. But somebody unidentified took the Necronomicon and 'alternate' Ruby (Lucy Lawless) was still lurking about. Campbell has previously stated that season 3 will have a slightly different tone, and that Ash also discovers that he has a teenage daughter. This makes the above image particularly interesting, as it contains a (presumably) Deadite mascot and a blood-soaked school corridor. And then there's the 'Evil is about to get schooled' tagline. Does this mean that Ash's daughter is a student and at least some of the season will take place in a high school?

Campbell has said that the show is intended to have a five season arc, so we hope that the new episodes keep the series' unique blend of outrageous humor and excessive gore going for some time to come. At any rate, we're glad to finally have some confirmation regarding the return of Ash vs. Evil Dead, and we look forward to seeing Ash twirl the boomstick again next year.
