Throughout season 5, Arrow the show and Green Arrow the character have had a singular focus. While there have been a few one-off adventures, most of the story has revolved around the threat of Prometheus and how it connects to Oliver’s past. Fans have seen new heroes and villains emerge, but the mission has all been about taking down the new villain focused on utterly destroying Oliver Queen. All of these events have tied in with the flashbacks, which have moved Oliver right up to where he was in the series premiere.
When the show returns from hiatus, Oliver and the rest of Team Arrow will once more be after Prometheus, but another major villain is waiting in the wings. A few weeks back, Stephen Amell teased the return of Deathstroke to the show. Like Prometheus, he’s one of the show’s greatest villains, and fans have long been hoping to see him and Manu Bennett return. Last week, it was learned that Oliver would team up with some unexpected allies to stop Prometheus and it was speculated that Slade Wilson could be one of them. Now, fans have confirmation.
Stephen Amell tweeted out two photos, teasing the upcoming finale of Arrow‘s fifth season. The first confirms the return of Bennett and Deathstroke, indicating that Oliver will be teaming up with his former frenemy. The second tweet shows Oliver on what looks to be Lian Yu (once the houses are digitally removed) and in his wig he wears for the flashbacks.

It is already known that the finale won’t take place in Star City, so Lian Yu seemed like a safe bet. And if Amell’s tweets weren’t proof enough, executive producer Marc Guggenheim followed it up by confirming the title and location of the finale.
Considering Lian Yu is where Oliver locked up Deathstroke and where he’ll end up in the flashbacks, it makes sense for the show to bring things full circle. By having Oliver rescued in the flashbacks on Lian Yu while fighting Prometheus there in the present day, it’ll provide a neat way of wrapping up his dual five year origin.
As for teaming with Slade, it’ll be fun for the viewers but painful for Oliver. Though the rogue used to be Oliver’s close friend, he also killed Oliver and Thea’s mother. That’s the kind of thing you just can’t get over easily. Still, Oliver is desperate at this point, and we know he makes terrible decisions when he’s in such a state. As for what will happen to Deathstroke once Prometheus is inevitably defeated, here’s hoping he retains his freedom and returns to torment the Arrowverse in the future.
Arrow returns Wednesday, April 26 with ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, at 8 pm on The CW.
