This article contains Arrow Season 3 spoilers!
Season 3 of Arrow ended on a high note for the vigilantes of Starling City. With Ra’s al Ghul defeated and presumably killed, Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) finally decided to start a relationship, and Black Canary (Kate Cassidy) and Thea Queen (Willa Holland) have become important members of team Arrow. John Diggle (David Ramsey) and Oliver may not be on the best terms, but the city was saved and the future has never looked brighter for these heroes.
Team Arrow definitely earned some downtime after their battle with the League of Assassins, but all good things must come to an end, and it has been revealed who else will be giving the group trouble in Season 4.
According to Variety, Falling Skies’ Ryan Robbins has landed the role of Conklin, a “sadistic and ruthless” character who is part of Shadowspire.
In the comics, Shadowspire is a criminal organization that supplies drug cartels, corrupt governments, and others with supplies like weapons and technology. In the organization’s first story arc (Deathstoke #53-54), the villains attempt to cripple the U.S. government, hoping the country would then fall apart and anarchy would break out across the entire continent. Once that happens, their business would be better than ever, as everyone turns to them for weaponry. In the new season of Arrow, this group of villains will appear in the flashback sequences. Shadowspire will be led by Baron Reiter, and Robbins will make his debut in Season Four’s third episode.
Jimmy Akingbola has been cast as Baron Reiter/Baron Blitzkrieg – he’ll be an antagonist in the flashbacks – while Neal McDonough’s Damien Darhk, the leader of the villainous group H.I.V.E., is set to present Oliver Queen and his friends all kinds of trouble in present day. Several other characters will make their debut – including Anarchy and Mr. Terrific – but the name “Conklin” appears to be brand new.
Based on the character’s description, it’s possible he’s based on Mourn, a member of Shadowspire who was dangerous enough to hold his own against Slade Wilson/Deathstroke and utilized a variety of technology. Given the handling of Deathstroke’s history in the CW universe – and not to mention the fact that Manu Bennett, the man playing Slade, said he wasn’t happy with the character’s role in Season 3 – it doesn’t seem likely he’ll be part of the flashback story, despite the evil organization making its debut in one of his comic series.
Season 4 of Arrow begins on The CW on October 7th, at 8PM; The Flash starts its second season on The CW on October 6th; Legends of Tomorrow is expected to debut on The CW in early 2016.
