While we’re still waiting to see DC and Warner Bros.’ Justice League assemble on the big screen, over on the CW’s Arrow, they’re already building an impressive roster of comic book heroes (and villains). What started out as a modern and grounded take on the Green Arrow mythos has grown to include characters like The Huntress, Deadshot, Amanda Waller, and Deathstroke (just to name only a few)
But that was only the beginning. Premiering alongside Arrow season 3 this fall is The Flash, which will star Grant Gustin as Barry Allen – last seen getting struck by lightening and doused in chemicals last season on Arrow – in his early days as the scarlet speedster. The two shows will allow for even more DC Comics’ characters to appear on TV, including Firestorm, Wildcat, Katana, and more.
Also joining Arrow this season is Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer, a character comic book fans will immediately recognize as the secret identity of The Atom. Palmer comes to Starling City as the new head of Queen Consolidated and brings with him secret plans for the company’s Applied Sciences Division. In the comics The Atom has the ability to shrink himself and objects around him thanks to a high-tech belt. Could Arrow‘s Palmer be interested in developing similar technology?
Coming in as Queen Consolidated’s new C.E.O. will definitely put him at odds with Oliver (Stephen Amell), and even more so if Palmer has a mysterious agenda. In recently released images from Arrow‘s season 3 premiere (courtesy of TV Line), there may already be hints of that tension. Check them out below:
Besides what appears to be a slightly uncomfortable first meeting between Oliver and Ray Palmer, these new images also feature what looks to be Team Arrow in crisis mode and a very sweet moment for Diggle (David Ramsey) with his and his ex-wife/new girlfriend, fellow A.R.G.U.S. agent Lyla’s newborn baby. Clearly, part of Diggle’s arc next season will be about protecting his new family as well and balancing that part of his life with his involvement on a crime-fighting team.
As for the other member of Team Arrow, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) will be grappling with her affections for both Oliver and Barry (when she guest-stars on The Flash). We’ll also learn more about Felicty’s past in an upcoming episode titled “The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak.”
