This Week in TV:

Arrow season 2 casts the DC Comics character Sin; The Following season 2 adds another FBI agent to be played by James McDaniel (NYPD Blue); FX announces a Parks and Recreation marathon to launch its sister network FXX; ABC’s Once Upon a Time finds its Ariel for season 3 in JoAnna Garcia (Reba); and FX releases some creepy American Horror Story: Coven promo videos to give us the chills for the upcoming season.

We already knew that Arrow season 2 will introduce several new characters, and this week Bex Taylor-Klaus (The Killing) was cast as Sin.

Known to DC comics fans as a skilled martial artist and protege of the Black Canary, Sin will make her first appearance in episode 3 of the upcoming second season of Arrow. On the show, Sin is a street kid and small-time criminal who ends up befriending the Black Canary (Caity Lotz). Canary will presumably take Sin under her wing.

As previously stated, Taylor-Klaus will be just one of many new faces in season 2, which has also added Michael Jai White (Spawn) as the deadly assassin Bronze Tiger, Kevin Alejandro (True Blood) as a powerful alderman named Sebastian Blood and Summer Glau (Firefly) as Oliver Queen’s business rival, Isabel Rochev.

Arrow season 2 premieres October 9, 2013 on the CW, but to hold fans over in the meantime, check out the season 2 trailer that was released last month at Comic-Con.

FOX’s The Following added to its season 2 cast this week, landing James McDaniel (NYPD Blue) as an FBI agent.

McDaniel will play Ken Phillips, an agent responsible for running a task force in New York City. His character will act as a replacement for Agent Debra Parker (Annie Parisse) and will have a recurring role in the upcoming season.

With more followers expected to emerge in season 2, law enforcement will need all the help it can get to track them down, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the show casts more agent and police roles as the premiere approaches.

Tune in to The Following season 2 when it premieres in January 2014 on FOX.

FX has announced that it will launch its sister network, FXX, with an all-day Parks and Recreation marathon on Labor Day.

The event – which is appropriately titled “Treat Yo Self” – will begin @7am and will run almost until midnight. It will also mark the first time the series has ever aired on any network besides NBC.

Even though FXX is expected to serve as a more comedy-oriented network than FX, the decision to air a non-FX show out of the gate seems a bit odd, especially considering FX has moved its most popular comedy programs – including It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The League – over to kickstart the sister channel. One would think the network would prime audiences for the season premieres of those shows with marathons of their own, but maybe the strategy with this one-of-a-kind event was to bring in would-be network viewers along with the FX crowd.

Either way, FXX viewers will get a good dose of all three shows during the first week of September, as the Parks and Rec marathon airs September 2nd and It’s Always Sunny season 10 and The League season 6 both premiere September 4th.

Once Upon a Time season 3 has finally found its Ariel in JoAnna Garcia (Reba).

At last month’s Comic-Con, a teaser trailer revealed that The Little Mermaid main character would appear in the show’s upcoming third season, but it wasn’t clear who would play the part at the time. Now, producers have confirmed that Garcia will first appear as Ariel in episode 6, which will also be named after the character.

Producers said season 3 will present a compelling back story for the character while adding a twist on the classic Disney tale. Executive producer Eddy Kitsis also hinted that Ariel’s evil octopus enemy, Ursula, may show up this season as well.

We’ll see how Ariel ties into the season 3 storyline when Once Upon a Time returns to ABC on September 29, 2013.

FX has released some new promotional clips for American Horror Story: Coven and as with any season of the hit series, they are beyond creepy. Check them out below:

In each clip – which are each less than 30 seconds long – we get just a brief glimpse of the twisted vision of the upcoming season. In the above clip (titled “Pins and Needles”), we see some horrifying form of grotesque torture, while the promo below (titled “Staircase”) indicates that there is some paranormal activity (don’t worry, not the movie) to be discovered in the new season.

Of course, these promos don’t shed very much light on the storylines in the new season. However, from the teaser that was released a couple of weeks back and from interviews with cast members Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates, we know that the new story will involve a coven of witches, voodoo, and slave-owning killers in New Orleans. And those details certainly explain some of what we’re seeing in these latest promos.

Prepare for the tense scares of American Horror Story: Coven before it premieres on October 9, 2013 on FX.
