Arrow Season 2 Premiere Images and Plot Synopsis Arrow Season 2 Premiere Images & Synopsis: Oliver vs. the Hostile Takeover

If you had said a year ago that a TV show about Green Arrow would become one of the most popular superhero shows in television history, few people probably would’ve believed you. And yet that’s exactly what happened – since the premiere of Arrow on The CW last year, the show has fast become one of network’s biggest hits, thanks in no small part to writer/producer Marc Guggenheim and star Stephen Amell.

With the season 2 premiere only a few weeks away,we’re starting to see more and more publicity images for the upcoming episodes, like this shot of Michael Jai White as Bronze Tiger.  And today we have a slew of new images from the premiere – titled ‘City of Heroes’ – as well as the plot synopsis, featuring Amell as Oliver Queen/The Hood, Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, Colton Hayes as Roy Harper, Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson, and more.

Check out the images below (courtesy of GreenArrowTV):

The images give us our first look at the aforementioned Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev, Oliver’s business rival. They also provide some action shots of Oliver and Felicity, who, according to producers, just might have a romantic relationship in their future (cross your fingers!).

Otherwise, the images aren’t particularly eventful. If you’ve seen these characters before – and chances are you have if you’re reading an article about a second season premiere – then you’re not going to see much of anything new.

However, we also have the plot synopsis for the season 2 premiere, which does provide some new information about the forthcoming season. Read it below:

FROM VIGILANTE TO HERO — Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) travel to Lian Yu in search of Oliver (Stephen Amell) who left Starling City after The Undertaking.  Convinced to return home, Oliver finds that things are in worse shape than he thought – Isabel Rochev (guest star Summer Glau) is preparing a hostile takeover of Queen Consolidated, Thea (Willa Holland) refuses to visit Moira (Susanna Thompson) in jail, Roy (Colton Haynes) is trying to fill the void left by the Arrow’s absence, and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is working with the District Attorney’s office to take down the vigilante.  Meanwhile, flashbacks to the island show Slade (Manu Bennett), Shado (guest star Celina Jade) and Oliver in a desperate situation.

A few things to think about:

  • Why has Oliver left Sterling City? Is it because his best friend -  Tommy Merlyn – died in the season 1 finale?
  • How long will it take for Roy Harper to join forces with The Hood? (For those who don’t know, in the comics, Roy Harper a.k.a. Speedy was Green Arrow’s drug-abusing sidekick.)
  • Will Isabel (Summer Glau’s character) end up being as weird as the character from the comics? In the comics, she was in love with Oliver’s father and even wore his dead wife’s jewelry. That’s probably out of the question now that they’ve cast someone as young as Glau – but could there be more to her than just her business qualifications?
  • And finally – how much longer are we going to have to watch flashbacks?

What say you, Screen Ranters? Are you looking forward to Arrow season 2? Are you excited to see all the new villains and appear? Drop us a line in the comments.

  1. The flashbacks are the best part of the show – its what kept me roped in, the island is pretty cool

    • I don’t really have anything against the flashbacks, I’m just wondering how long they’ll draw them out. I feel like the storyline they have going on there is only serviceable for so long.

      • The creators of the show have stated if they can get the series to 5 seasons to have flashbacks for each season to represent his 5 years on the island.

        • It would be cool if they could release all of the island flashbacks as sand alone episodes. They could reedit them to play as single episodes…perhaps for dvd /bluray releases.

        • Flashbacks are OK, just don’t over-use them. Remember how fans turned against The Event for too many of those (although I liked The event, and bought the entire series on DVD).

      • Those flashback are probably going to last the full five-year run (assuming the stick to the five year plan like so many other TV series seem to be doing nowadays).

This is a good thing, I don’t want to see Slade take up the mask until the very last episode.

    • Yes. Flashbacks are more interesting than nowadays story. I am really happy that they exist =)

    • Spot on! Flashbacks rock!

  2. I noticed that you made no mention of the fact that Detective Lance appears to have been demoted, since he’s now operating as a patrol officer.

    • Saw that too. I was kind of shocked by the uniform.

    • Yeah I was wondering why he was dressed officer O’Hara from the old Batman TV show. Also, they don’t wear the hats inside. Just like the military.

  3. shows creators has already planned for the five years as they have flash backs as parallel about what happened to Oliver and what is happening to him back home it would make more interesting way to make it interesting this what the producer said

  4. im amped

  5. “Will Isabel (Summer Glau’s character) end up being as weird as the character from the comics? In the comics, she was in love with Oliver’s father and even wore his dead wife’s jewelry. That’s probably out of the question now that they’ve cast someone as young as Glau – but could there be more to her than just her business qualifications?”

I dont know about all that, but you cant hire Summer without her showing off her fighting/ballet skills. So im sure we will see her (I hope) in a fight or something.

  6. Can’t wait! This show really surprised and the finale was a real corker!

    • I was surprised as the show progressed as well. I never really liked Green Arrow much in the comics, but this show has kept me mildly interested all down the line.

And Ms. Smoak is “smoakin’ hot”! And no doubt wants me!

  7. Oliver leaves Thea in the cold after their mom is jailed? That’s kinda messed up. I’m sure their relationship is going to be reset to what it was at the beginning of the show’s first season.

  8. Part of me wonders if Summer Glau’s character will end up being a vigilante of some kind – good or bad. I guess I can’t believe that they’d have someone that’s so experienced in a**-kicking take up an office job, so to speak.

  9. Maybe i missed something but why is Det. Lance in regular police uniform? Did he get demoted?

    • One would imagine that, after his suspension, Lance got demoted for conspiring with a known criminal.

    • Yeah. Watch the finale again.

  10. Flashbacks are cool. Remember LOST

  11. Maybe in this version Isabel is Robert Queens daughter. And that why she thinks she should be running the company.

    • I might be completely wrong, but I think Moira alluded to Robert’s infidelity in Season 1 of Arrow, so good call!

  12. Olicity =DD

  13. I enjoy “Arrow” very much, though I didn’t feel the story-lines were well presented through most of the episodes. Then the season finale made up for it with a well-defined plot and acting that seemed to have matured.

BTW, this is fairly common for most good shows and why it has been proven many times that good shows need at least three seasons to develop a solid following; something the networks are not allowing that much anymore in this age of “instant gratification”.

With that said, I am very muchj looking forward to the second season with Summer Glau, who from the image appears to have had some facial surgery,
which make her look quite good.

As to the “flashbacks”, keep them coming. We still have to learn how Oliver learned his skills and why they are better than others with similar skills…

  14. No Felicity b*******… Come on CW people Oliver is suposed to end up with Dinah (Laurel) Lance here…. Hate Felicity cause she’s just annoying as all living hell. It’s all about the Pretty Bird and Green Arrow people!

  15. It doesn’t matter, they’ve cast Summer Glau, so the show will be cancelled soon.

    • Where have I heard that joke before…?

  16. Actually, one of the better series on right now.

  17. I enjoy the flashbacks. And I like the Green Arrow comics and books. Can’t wait for the new season!

  18. Isn’t manu bennet surpposed to be deathstroke?

    • He is. Or will be, rather.

  19. Hey guys, does anybody know if they are going to show this series in full HD?

    • Almost certainly not. In the US, I think it gets broadcast in 720p and the UK’s version of HD is usually 1080i. If you want the full-on 1080p version, you’ll probably be waiting for the Blu-ray release around this time next year, unfortunately.

  20. Just to know one thing when we will see Arrow vs. Deathstroke Will there be a Black Canary.

  21. Speaking of the black canary,if I’m correct she’s laurel lance right? So when do we see her on screen?

  22. I just want Felicity Smoak to turn out to be Slade’s daughter. Some awesome Ravager action would be great. Ollie has to kill her forcing Slade to become Deathstroke.

    • Hetch no! Felicity is the best thing about the show, so glad she was brought in and made a regular, if you are going to get rid of someone, get rid of Dinglebarry the Sadsacker

      • Why ? Diggle rules.
