The CW's vigilante superhero show Arrow definitely isn't messing around when it comes to drawing on the vast array of characters from the DC comics universe. Season 2 alone has been opening its doors to new characters almost every week, with Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), Sebastian Blood (Kevin Alejandro), Black Canary (Caity Lotz) and Isabel Rochev (Summer Glau) just a few of the new players in town.

The next episode will also feature the first appearance of Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash (Grant Gustin), a particularly significant addition to the Arrow lineup as he will almost certainly be the first legitimately superpowered character on the show. Since even the most far-fetched elements of the series so far have been grounded in realism, the Flash's arrival will open up the possibility of even more heroes and villains with extra-normal powers.

Where super-speed goes, could the undead follow? That's one possible development that could occur in the latter half of season 2, as a new synopsis for episode 7, 'Three Ghosts,' describes Oliver taking on a new enemy, who was briefly introduced in last week's episode but has now been officially named.

"After a fight with Cyrus Gold a.k.a. the Acolyte (guest star Graham Shiels), Oliver is drugged and left for dead.  Determined to cure him, Felicity makes a risky decision.  The cure causes Oliver to hallucinate, and what he sees forces him to confront his past.  Meanwhile, Barry (guest star Grant Gustin) continues to help Felicity, and their connection grows stronger.

"The Arrow asks Lance to look into Gold, but when the stakeout on Gold goes bad, someone is killed. Roy (Colton Haynes) is captured and tortured by Brother Blood (guest star Kevin Alejandro).  John Behring directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kresiberg and teleplay by Geoff Johns & Ben Sokolowski."

Graham Shiels to play Cyrus Gold in 'Arrow'
Cyrus Gold is played by Graham Shiels ('True Blood')

In the comics, Cyrus Gold was the former name of supervillain Solomon Grundy, a reanimated corpse with superhuman strength who is notoriously resilient to death. If you were paying attention during "State vs. Queen," you may have noticed that Brother Blood's disciple who survived being given the miracle serum was referred to as "Brother Cyrus." It now seems that Cyrus Gold will emerge as a champion of Blood's cause under the name "the Acolyte."

While it's possible that Gold is going to be a long-running villain for this season and possibly even beyond it, there are also a lot of ways in which he could transform into Grundy. If the "someone" who is killed during the stakeout is Gold himself, then perhaps we'll see him resurrected as Solomon Grundy almost straightaway. He could also end up being written out of the show very quickly, in the same way that classic Green Arrow villain Constantine Drakon was in the pilot episode.

Hopefully the show's writers have decided to work the resurrected Grundy into the show as well as his living counterpart. Nothing livens up a city like a good zombie, especially one that's as big as The Hulk.
