‘Arrow’ Season 1 Preview Reveals Deadshot, Deathstroke, China White & More

The CW’s new hit superhero drama Arrow may have opened with a ratings bang, but the series – based on DC Comic’s emerald archer Green Arrow – is looking to keep newly-hooked fans coming back, and to that end the show is rolling out even more explosive vengeance and comic book cameos.

At this year’s New York Comic-Con, DC Comics and the CW released an epic new two-minute, supervillian-packed trailer, which shows that Starling City’s budding hero will have to run through a gamut of some of the DCU’s most fearsome assassins and trained killers before he has any hope of cleansing the hometown streets his own father helped to taint.

The new Arrow season 1 montage gives fans a sneak peek at highly-anticipated DC Comics characters China White (Kelly Hu) and Deadshot (Michael Rowe) trading bullets and blows with the hooded vigilante – who’s greatest enemy may come in the form of Detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), a man who bears a hash grudge not only against the lawless Arrow, but also against his alter-ego Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), whom he blames for the death of his youngest daughter, Sarah.

Torchwood‘s John Barrowman – currently only known as the “Well-Dressed Man” – also makes a split-second appearance in this trailer, and it seems that he too will pose a threat to both Arrow and Oliver, as well as  having a mysterious tie to Oliver’s very shady mother, Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson).

Despite the multiple bullets Arrow and Oliver will have to dodge (in and out of costume), the vengeful vigilante will have some  much-needed backup inside the law, thanks to legal aid attorney and ex-girlfriend, Laurel Lance (who is loosely based on DC Comic super heroine Black Canary). Even though Laurel is currently unaware of the identity of the man under the hood, she feels a strong connection to Arrow and recognizes the necessity of what he’s doing, which ultimately causes her to assist him.

Taking a more proactive role in Arrow’s fight is Black Canary’s Birds of Prey companion, Helena Bertinelli  - AKA The Huntress (Jessica De Gouw) - who will cross paths with the emerald archer on a mission to take down her mafia boss father. Although Arrow prefers to hunt alone, with the major threat of deadly assassin (and possible mentor) Deathstroke the Terminator setting up shop in Starling City, Arrow may have to accept a superhero assist whenever he can.

  1. I think this show is going to be really really good. Deathstroke looks pretty cool, can’t wait to see him in action as well as China White. My only complaint is Deadshot, he looks terrible. But oh well, head gear does’nt seem to be really important among superhero films. Looking at you Thor.

  2. anyone know if drakon will be returning or not, it would seem pretty stupid if they killed him off in the pilot (which doesn’t really count as an episode imo).

  3. Looks good but hopefully Deadshot gets to wear his mask, and Deathstroke and the other characters get the respect they deserve.

  4. I think Deathstroke has a lot to do with all the things that happened that changed Oliver in the island. Perhaps he was in the island before Ollie did and in one way or another train Ollie all of his skills, before perhaps they had a falling out. The Deathstroke mask punctured with arrow that was shown in the pilot could be there for a specific reason. Let’s see how it goes later then, huh?

  5. out of the 3 new fall series that i have checked out this year (Arrow, Elementary, Revolution), Arrow is my favorite so far after only one episode. Hope it continues to stay good.

  6. I really enjoyed the 1st episode (minus the VoiceOver) so I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.

  7. Although he still looks pretty cool, Deathstroke (in my opinion) just doesn’t look as cool in this trailer as he did in the pictures released earlier. But, he still looks fine.

As for Deadshot, I don’t mind them changing the costume (and just keeping the eyepiece) but what’s irritating me about his look is that he doesn’t where a mask at all. I don’t care about them tweaking or changing the mask, but not having one at all just seems strange to me.

I havn’t seen the pilot, but I have heard it’s pretty good. Unfortunately, the only bad thing I heard about it was the actor that plays Green Arrow. For a show, that worries me…

  8. i was impressed with the pilot, I will be eagerly watching the show. If only they could make a Nightwing show

    • Oh heck yes! Nightwing of all characters deserves a TV show. Better a yet a film.

    • When news about which DC character is making their way into the show I have been saying Nightwing would be a perfect addition later on. It would be a nice way to make tribute to the Batman mythos while keeping a distance from the direct involvement of the big guy himself.

Maybe it could be John Blake lol investigating on his own terms who Arrow is, lol, and have some nods to the Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. But in all seriousness having Nightwing would make an awesome addition to the range of supporting character.

But for the moment I do not want them to add too much new characters in just season 1, as the cast and seperate potential for each character and storyline is as pretty big set up by the pilot

  12. An I really want to watch the first episode I have it recorded but I’m swamped with school work. Mann!

  13. 1:24 was one of the cops on Smallville that tried to kill Green Arrow

  14. So, was that white wigged chick supposed to be the Huntress? If it is, that is terribly disappointing.

    • That’s China White, n00b.

  15. the first episode is terrible, and i don’t get his motivation, maybe it gets better…

  16. Watched the pilot and I so laugh out loud at the serious parts. The continuity is horrendous plus they have to expect the viewers to be absolute moron during the gun scenes where people just stand there and not shoot (sometime with their back to target) or when there is an onslaught of bullets none even hit once. Its 90% 90210/Glee cheesy soap acting mixed with B movie fighting but I guess it’s a Smallville replacement so didn’t expect much but boy this is lower than I expected.

    • I hated a lot of the responce anger appearing from nowhere as it was never set up. I guess there is meant to be subtext from comic books that fans would know but they ain’t going to hold onto viewers thats way(viewers like me that don’t know everything about the characters from the comic books).

      • Realised whilst giving episode 2 a go (expecting to eat my own words but not) that this is Dallas. I’m not sure what I have laughed at more – this or Spartacus during the serious action and dialogue scenes. This is aimed at 12 years old and below I’m starting to believe. Plus a measure of generic police procedural with villains every episode.

  17. The show is just great. More will be explained as we get deeper into the season. All the characters look cool. I now look forward to Wednesday nights. I really think the CW has a real hit on their hands here. What would really be cool, is if this Green Arrow joined up with the Justice League Movie eventually. This preview plays like a movie trailer. I hope the show is on for years.

  18. It looks like the bank robbers are an updated version of the Royal Flush Gang from DC comics.
