We're still several months away from Netflix's long-awaited resurrection of the cult comedy Arrested Development, but as the days tick by until then, the cast and crew are out and about, whetting appetites by answering as many questions as they can about the new season.

While fans await the first glimpse of the cast back together in an official trailer – which will likely be a Netflix exclusive, similar to their promotion of the upcoming House of Cards everyone has had to make do with elaborate Arrested Development photo shoots and tidbits of information gleaned from cast members in the midst of an interview on some other topic. Case in point: Michael Cera, who will once again take on the role of George-Michael Bluth, talked about being invited by series creator Mitchell Hurwitz to join the show's stable of writers in addition to his acting duties.

Cera, who was at Sundance promoting his two upcoming films from director Sebastian Silva (Crystal Fairy with Gaby Hoffman and Magic Magic co-starring Juno Temple), spoke with MTV News regarding his promotion/extra workload, saying that it had started as a simple invitation to sit in with the writing team and grew from there. Despite feeling somewhat overwhelmed at times, Cera was pleasantly surprised when Hurwitz asked if the actor would like to turn his visits to the writers' room into an actual gig.

Cera stated:

"Mitch mentioned to me coming in one day, and I was very excited that he had invited me. I went in, and he said, 'Come back tomorrow,' and I kept coming back because I really wanted to stick around until I integrated with them.

"It was a very small room this year. It was only like five guys. It was really fun and friendly and not too intimidating. There were a few days where there were ten guys in there. I was like 'Whoa.' I felt kind of in over my head. Then he just asked me if I wanted to actually come on and actually work there. It was a nice gift from him to me."

As far as specific details on the season are concerned, Cera didn't have much new information, but in terms of comedic quality, the actor says season 4 is one of his favorites. Of course, as Cera puts it, he's "biased," but in saying that Hurwitz has managed to pull off something that is this "ambitious" – probably a reference to the new format of the series – he may have set the bar even higher for when the series finally returns.

Michael Cera and Jason Bateman in Arrested Development Season 4

"I think I'm pretty biased, but it feels like one of my favorite seasons. I love it, and I think Mitch is really good at living up to expectations. He set out to do this really ambitious thing. It's structured in a very ambitious way. I think he pulled it off. It was really impressive to watch, and he kept it together the whole time."

While the return of Arrested Development is certainly newsworthy in and of itself, the fact that it will be exclusive to Netflix makes it even more so. Since the rental and streaming giant won't have to watch ratings in the same manner as a broadcast network would, there's some question as to how the company will gauge the show's success and the possibility of future seasons. While Cera's co-star and onscreen father Jason Bateman would like to see the series head to the big screen, his fictional offspring has doubts as to whether Hurwitz has something like that in mind.

"I not sure if Mitch is thinking of it like that. It's open-ended in a way. There are a lot of things set up that could be paid off later on, so in that way, I think it's sort of suggesting that he wants to do more of them."

Of course, considering Mitch Hurwitz just said all of 13 days ago that he was very much interested in bringing Arrested Development to the big screen, maybe we should take Cera's lack of clarity on the issue with a grain of salt.

Arrested Development season 4 is expected to drop on Netflix in May 2013.
