franklin bluthjg Arrested Development to (Finally) Start Filming This Year?

Coming Soon caught up with Arrested Development star Will Arnett while covering the press junkett for that Kirsten Bell flick When In Rome and wisely probed the actor (no, not in THAT way) about what all is going on with the Arrested Development movie.

Arnett’s response? The cameras should (hopefully) start rolling sometime this year.

The show is going on four years having been off the air – but thanks to sites like Hulu, TV stations like G4 (plays the show from start to finish to start again) and great deals from Amazon (I got the whole series for $30 not a month ago!), Arrested Development fandom just keeps on growing.

Anyway, here’s what Arnett had to say:

We are working on the movie right now, yeah… We don’t have a completed script yet, but it’s forthcoming and we’re going to make the movie this year…That’s the plan. We’re hoping once Jason Bateman gets out of rehab. I think that we’re going to start shooting. Oh, was I not supposed to…? Please don’t air that.”

We already know from a few months back that show creator Mitchell Hurwitz is working on the script, so I’m willing to take Arnett at his word…for now. Of course, this Arrested Development movie has had quite a few starts and stops over the years, so maybe it would be wise to stay just a little skeptical?

Nah, for now I’m going to remain hopeful that the Bluth family makes a big return to the screen. Reportedly the film would be helmed by none other than…MR. F! icon wink Arrested Development to (Finally) Start Filming This Year?

How about you – are you keeping fingers crossed that Arrested Development gets underway in 2010?

  1. I've really gotta check out this show. I've heard really positive things about it and I'm a big Michael Cera fan. I don't really want to buy a season of it without knowing anything though haha. I should check the video store sometime.

  2. This is great news. I hope they do start filming this year and can get this out sometime next year. I really miss the show and still watch the dvd's of it. Probably one of the best shows of the last decade, too bad it had to be on Fox, they never promote their hidden gems but even though everyone knows when 24 or American Idol are going to be on, you'll still see 18 million commercials for them.

  3. I wish Will Arnett was in more stuff. Gob was always my favorite character.

That said, I'm really curious how this is going to turn out. Since Micheal Cera has matured, they can't reasonably pick up right where the series left off, which means the movie will take place four, five years later (if they start filming this year).

There's a lot of loose threads that I'd like to see wrapped up, too, such as the one involving Julia Louise Dreyfuss' character.

  4. I was gutted when Arrested Development ended. Consistently unpredictable, surreal and hilarious. Here in the UK the BBC gave it the usual treatment they reserve for shows they haven't got a clue what to do with (Defying Gravity being a recent example) and relegated it to a constantly changing slot at some mad hour of the night. If the film happens, I hope they manage to get all the original cast back together. Done right, it could be a Royal Tenenbaums or I Heart Huckabees that actually is as funny and as clever as those two movies thought they were.

  5. Oh yeah, the guy in the $5,000 suit is going to tell us that the Arrested Development movie is going to start filming this year.
    COME ON!

  6. Awesome. Michael Cera has also made comments recently that suggest that the movie is rolling, albeit slowly. This is my second most anticipated movie of 2011, right after Green Lantern, or maybe even more than Green Lantern.

  7. Walmart has all 3 seasons for $ 15 each right now. Saw it last night.

  8. I just saw my first Arrested Development episode. Absolutelu stunning, I plan on watching the rest of the series throughout the week, and I can not wait for the movie.
By the way, Save Better off Ted!

  9. You can always go to Hulu. Right now they have the second season up, but it's really easy to get into.

  10. Can't wait for the movie. Are Michael Bluth and his sister going to get it on? lol

  12. Watch the series! And make sure you start from the beginning! (lots of callbacks to earlier episodes throughout the show). Great show. Excited for the movie!
