Arnold Schwarzenegger Developing ‘The Governator’ With Stan Lee?

Published 3 years ago by , Updated August 23rd, 2013 at 3:14 pm,

Among the many projects that back-in-action-star Arnold Schwarzenegger has mentioned were being rapidly developed for him was a comic book character vehicle (initially assumed to be a movie) and a new television series.

Now it has been revealed that the character and TV series are very much connected and will revolve around a superhero called (and this is apparently not an early April Fools joke)… The Governator.

The godfather of Marvel comic books, Stan Lee, is collaborating with Ah-nuld on an animated TV show and comic book version of The Governator, which so far sounds like a variation of Iron Man – only with the main character being an ex-politician who uses advanced technology to fight crime.

Don’t believe us? Entertainment Weekly has the scoop on The Governator, including this quote from Lee:

“The Governator is going to be a great superhero, but he’ll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger. We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”

Among other things, The Governator cartoon show and comic book will feature:

  • An Arnold Cave, which Lee describes as “a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”
  • A collection of “Super Suits” that allow him to fly and perform stunts
  • A 13-year-old computer whiz sidekick named Zeke Muckerberg (get it?)
  • An evil organization titled Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons – or G.I.R.L.I.E. Men

I’m going to be blunt – this HAS to be an April Fools joke. Yes, we live in an age where Hollywood is developing Stretch Armstrong and Rubik’s Cube movies, but The Governator just sounds like too much of an intentionally campy and outright goofy idea to be real. Really, SNL or Family Guy could come up with something as convincing (if not more so) than this.

The story will be included in EW‘s upcoming issue, which goes on sale this Friday… April 1st. If The Governator turns out to be a joke, we can all roll our eyes while the magazine’s writers pat themselves on the back for having pulled a fast one. If it turns out to be real… well, let the ranting begin.

  1. Would it be the first time Arnold mixed (borderline corny)humor and action? No. Does Lee have weird ideas regarding new series lately? Yes.

    All I’m saying….

    • Yeah, I have to admit – my suspicions about this being a joke primarily have to do with the April 1st release date.

Otherwise, I actually agree with you on both points.

      • If it is a joke it’s a pretty good one. It’s a well planned one too since Arnold said he’d reveal his next project late march or early april.

  2. This reminds me when Pamela Anderson and Stan Lee colaborated to make Striperella. Yeah, that didn’t turn out soo well.

  3. But Deadline has unfortunately confirmed this.

  4. I laughed so hard reading this! G.I.R.L.I.E. Men…. The Arnold Cave…. I hope this does come out cause it sounds funny. I don’t care if this is insane I’m hoping this isn’t an April Fools joke and that I can watch The Governator once every week… Too the Arnold Cave Mike! *60s Batman TV show theme plays*

    • I meant Zeke not mike :P

  5. This will be hilarious hahaha

  6. What’s the worst that could come from this if it is true? A show that’s candles after the 1st or 2nd season? A comic book that won’t be picked up? It’s not like they are going to add him to the Avengers. I for one am just going to take it for what it is, a lighthearted experiment to try to further the legacy of Arnold to kids who may not know him as well as the generations before this one do.

    • *cancels not candles…

  7. Fine make your little comic book, just stay out of films you fraud.

    :)

  8. Gosh…maybe schwartzie will donate the proceeds from this little project towards helping clean up the financial mess he left california in…if I never see or hear of this character again I’ll be happy.

  9. So mr. Freeze took over for batman and replaced oracle with the facebook guy? Hmm get me to a chopper (that transports me to another demension where this doesn’t exist.)

  10. LOL!!! Personally, I can’t wait! I always loved his comedies… as long as he’s not the script writer and they don’t take themselves too seriously, this has potential to be a classic!

  11. How about the Governator pay back the education money he “borrowed” from the CA public schools?

  12. Hmmm.
I wonder if there are any other Jokes that got sprung early.

  13. They are promising a behind the scenes first look on their Facebook page tmorrow with Arnold himself.
Thats probably when they reveal the joke.

  14. Its bad enough he’s making fun of his previous position as a civil servant now you telling me this is a joke?

He’s clearly a very inept delusional scumbag of a life form.

  15. Agreed 790…the guy is a walking talking joke. I can’t believe Stan Lee would come within a galaxy of him. Go figure…

  16. Well Stan Lee is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet and can’t say no to anyone.

I don’t fault Stan at all. Arnolds the one who has no moral compass.

  17. If it’s not a joke………/visibly winces

  18. I love the idea. I think this is, hands down, the best entertainment news I’ve heard all year.

  19. This has to be a April Fool’s Joke ,lol. If so, good one Sandy!

  20. Who would actually pick this up for a season? I’m going with this being an AFD joke…reeeeally hoping. I suppose it would make for a wonderful SyFy fake ad to be played all day today.

  21. I’m sorry but this has April Fool’s written all over it. Or some episode SNL or something. This can’t be real…..can it?

  22. I’ve also seen this one in an austrian newspaper

  23. This would be hysterical if it’s true and I think it is. Here is a link to a concept art photo gallery at EW:

  24. Yep.
    Its true.
Deadline.com is reporting that Arnold is Attending the Canne Film Festival and promoting this .
Only,he is also talking about a 3D film in addition to the TV series.
    Be afraid.
    Be VERY afraid.

  25. I can already picture this as an episode of family guy and STEWIE is the leader of the so called G.I.R.L.I.E men…

I do agree with 790 that Stan is a nicest guy there is …
