Among the many projects that back-in-action-star Arnold Schwarzenegger has mentioned were being rapidly developed for him was a comic book character vehicle (initially assumed to be a movie) and a new television series.

Now it has been revealed that the character and TV series are very much connected and will revolve around a superhero called (and this is apparently not an early April Fools joke)… The Governator.

The godfather of Marvel comic books, Stan Lee, is collaborating with Ah-nuld on an animated TV show and comic book version of The Governator, which so far sounds like a variation of Iron Man – only with the main character being an ex-politician who uses advanced technology to fight crime.

Don’t believe us? Entertainment Weekly has the scoop on The Governator, including this quote from Lee:

“The Governator is going to be a great superhero, but he’ll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger. We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”

Among other things, The Governator cartoon show and comic book will feature:

  • An Arnold Cave, which Lee describes as “a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”
  • A collection of “Super Suits” that allow him to fly and perform stunts
  • A 13-year-old computer whiz sidekick named Zeke Muckerberg (get it?)
  • An evil organization titled Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons – or G.I.R.L.I.E. Men

I’m going to be blunt – this HAS to be an April Fools joke. Yes, we live in an age where Hollywood is developing Stretch Armstrong and Rubik’s Cube movies, but The Governator just sounds like too much of an intentionally campy and outright goofy idea to be real. Really, SNL or Family Guy could come up with something as convincing (if not more so) than this.

The story will be included in EW‘s upcoming issue, which goes on sale this Friday… April 1st. If The Governator turns out to be a joke, we can all roll our eyes while the magazine’s writers pat themselves on the back for having pulled a fast one. If it turns out to be real… well, let the ranting begin.
