Stallone & Schwarzenegger Confirmed for ‘The Tomb’

Published 3 years ago by , Updated February 15th, 2014 at 8:47 pm,

Last month we reported that Expendables 2 co-stars (and action movie icons) Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger could team up to star in a film called The Tomb, which is basically an action/thriller that has more than a few shades of Fox’s Prison Break TV show in its premise.

Today we can confirm that Stallone and Schwarzenegger will indeed be starring in The Tomb together, along with some further details about the film. Read on to learn more.

Check out the official press release for The Tomb to learn about the plot and what roles Sly and “Ahnuld” will be playing:

THE TOMB follows Ray Breslin (Stallone) who is the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed every high security prison and has gained a vast array of survival skills. But all Ray’s ingenuity and knowledge are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from the master prison of his own design.

Schwarzenegger, in the role of Church, plays a complex inmate with multiple shades of grey. He’s the guy who fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour as they struggle together to stay alive.

Any fan of Prison Break should be able to easily recognize the similarities between that show and this film – the difference being, of course, that Prison Break never had the combined star wattage of a powerhouse pairing like Stallone and Schwarzenegger.

Swedish director Mikael Håfström has been confirmed for the director’s chair of The Tomb. Håfström has directed solid genre fare such as Derailed, 1408, and most recently the exorcism thriller The Rite, starring Anthony Hopkins. The script by Miles Chapman (Road House 2) has been re-written by Jason Keller, who scripted the convoluted story for the action/drama biopic Machine Gun Preacher, as well as the upcoming Snow White re-imagining, Mirror Mirror. Not exactly the most assuring of screenwriting resumes, but moving on…

Filming on The Tomb will begin this spring in Louisiana, for a targeted 2013 release date.

  1. If true, I am looking forward to it. Arnold’s character sounds the more interesting of the two.

  2. “Schwarzenegger, in the role of Church, plays a complex inmate with multiple shades of grey”

    Arnie going for the Oscar?

Really, I’ve read the plot synopsis 4 times and I still conclude with one word…

Let’s play a game. How much screen time will Sly an’ Arnie (I smell a sitcom) get in comparison to their stunt doubles? I predict around 50/50.

    • Was already a sitcom, if you read the article, as it sounds very much like Prison Break. As for the plot synopsis prompting a “huh?”…most movies do these days. Just the star power of these two action icons will be enough to make it a hit.

      • Oh, I don’t disagree buddy. I’m of the age where I grew up with Commando/Predator and Rocky movies, so I’m not bashing these two at all. It’s just the idea that the studio is trying to sell us Arnie, after a career of McBain performances, in the role of a “complex etc” brings a smile to my face.

Tell it as it is. “Hey, we got Stallone and Schwarz being action stars in a movie where things blow up. Forget plot. Forget performance. Things BLOW UP!!”

      • Eh, it’s a better synopsis than the fourth Reich trying to conquer the Earth from the moon, while going against president Sarah Palin LOL!

        • That movie looks awesome. the world needs a few completly rediculous sci fi movies every now and then. Do not make fun of ze moon fuhrur(no idea how to spell that lol)

      • Prison Break wasn’t a sitcom. Ajeno’s joke was a show called “Sly an’ Arnie” in the style of an actual 30 minute comedy on network TV. Having to explain the joke to a condescending (“if you read the article”?) person such as yourself, however, makes it significantly less funny.

        • Correct.

  3. Sounds good. i’ll be looking forward to this one.

  4. This isnt quit on my list yet, but its on my “follow it and see what happens” list. Ill need a trailer to convince me if i want to check it out or not.

  5. Wait, they’re rebooting The Rock?

    • lolol

  6. Could be great. Could be horrible. Either way, I’m buying a damn movie ticket for this.
I like intelligent films, but i have a special place in my heart for mindless action

  7. Fingers crossed for an R rating.

  8. Sounds like a good film to me, along with a great duo. With Sly & Arnold in a duo film together like this, i hope it will be as great as Tango & Cash that Sly & Kurt Russell made great duo aswell.

    • Ah…Tango & Cash was “great”?

  9. Nicee these 2 need to be in more movies together

  10. Finally Stallone and Arine getting together for a movie, an action fan’s dream come true.

Arine’s character in this movie seems intreseting, it could awesome without him destorying stuffs without guns.

Arine is starting do roles of his age so this role from The Tomb may show his acting abilites.

I am happy that he is finally returning to do action movies.

Also I hope The Expendables 2, The Last Stand and The Tomb turn out to be awesome movies.

  11. I agree with Ajeno
Plus I loooooove Sylvester Stallone. :-D

  12. Honestly this sounds interesting, i look forward to hearing more about this project. Just hope they change Arnolds characters name from “church” to something else seeing as how that name is also used in another movie in which these two star (Bruce Willis is “church” in the Expendables movies). I am excited to see these guys staring in movies together and really hope this happens before one of them drop out. Story sounds interesting for sure!

  13. Interesting. It’s good they’re finally having a movie together before they get too old to make one. A bit like the collaboration between Jackie Chan and Jet Li in the “The Forbidden Kingdom” which martial arts film fans (myself included) have been waiting for a long time.

Speaking of Jackie Chan, I thought he and Sly were planning to make a movie together? That was a loooooonnnnggggg time ago. I wonder what happened to those plans?

    • Just to clear it up, what I meant with this “movie together” between Sly and Arny is a full length movie like this up-coming “The Tomb” and not like the Expendables where Arny merely did a cameo.

  14. This is Tango and Cash. They better get Kurt Russell on board.
