In a perplexing bit of news (that is simultaneously so obvious it makes you want to punch yourself in the head), Universal is allegedly trying to pull together a sequel to the 1988 Arnold Schwarzenegger/Danny DeVito comedy Twins with an important twist. The new film will feature Eddie Murphy as a third long-lost brother.

You heard that right folks. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, and Eddie Murphy could be Triplets if Universal can pull together a script and get a director onboard.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmĀ “would see Schwarzenegger and DeVito as brothers Julius and Vincent, conceived experimentally, who discover they have third sibling.” Presumably, the trio will get into all kinds of wacky hijinks related to their respective genetic differences before learning the important lesson that brothers stick up for each other…no matter what.

Schwarzenegger has been busy since vacating the California Governor’s office, taking on a handful of projects including The Last Stand and The Tomb. But we can’t say that we’re that surprised to hear news that Arnie is circling a sequel to Twins. After all, we first heard rumblings of a Twins sequel back in May of 2011.

Heck, we even predicted that Triplets might be coming in our post on the 6 movie sequels that Arnold should NOT make. We may have been wrong about the third triplet being Glenn Close, but I’ll be damned if our plot premise wasn’t spot on.

All kidding aside, do you think this is a good idea for Schwarzenegger? Honestly, given the actor’s age, I’m inclined to think he may actually be better in comedies than action movies at this point in his career. And when it comes to a supporting case, Danny DeVito and Eddie Murphy are pretty good partners (even if Murphy is coming off the relatively disappointing A Thousand Words). Am I crazy to think this could actually work?

Let us know what you think of Schwarzenegger, DeVito, and Murphy potentially teaming up for Triplets.

  1. I!!!!!!!!!!!! LIKE IT!!!!!!!!

    • This could be a joke, as some below have speculated, but it could potentially work. I would love to see those three on screen together in a comedy.

  2. If you’re 12 years old this may some appeal.

  3. Obvious April Fools Joke! I called it!

    • But it’s not April 1st?

  4. April Fooled.

  5. Ha ha ha very funny.

  6. if only it where a joke and not the truth… alot of sites have been posting this bs everywhere so i highly doubt it’s bs…..

  7. This sounds so dumb…. Does no one else think this is awesome?

  8. not an april fools joke though, cos it’s not even april 1

    • It doesn’t have to be April Fools day to be an April Fools prank, in fact nobody would believe it is the story hit on Sunday.

This is how the game is played sir.

  9. No!

  10. Im glad its a prank because its one of the dumbest ideas i have heard.

  11. This is a huge W-T-F!!!

But, the more you let it sink in. Schwarzenegger, Devito, Murphy, just the idea of these three on screen together jabbing at each other. Yes please!!!

    • Another thing to add, I rewatched Twins and it’s not really the most family friendly PG comedy. There are some really mature themes in that film if you rewatch it again.
I doubt they would go the some route if this comes to be.

  12. i agree that ah-nuld would be good in comedy just not this train wreck waiting to happen *le sigh*

  13. With so many great books just waiting to be made into movies and all they can come up with is garbage like this? WTF, stop with all the stupid sequels on mediocre movies.

  14. yeah this doesnt sound to good. i like arnold beating people up. and i did like twins. but he did only a little beating up on people and this plot doesnt sound good. why would their mother lie to them again? after all they went through?

  15. BWHAHAHAH oh yeah.

  16. Please tell me this is a prank.

  17. I would understand a sequel to Coming To America, but if it were true, this would be pretty much indefensible as a career choice.

  18. lol at this point, why not.

  19. This sadly sounds like its right up Murphy’s alley these days considering the string of turkeys he is putting out for a buck. I mean his last picture. “A Thousand Words” managed to get a ZERO approval rating on RT which I thought was impossible.

  20. There’s already a Three Stooges movie coming out.

But put Klump, The Lorax, and Kindergarten Cop in a movie then maybe you’ve got something.

On 2nd thought that’s crap too.

  21. Too bad it wasn’t April 1st, this would have been perfect. Please tell us this was just posted early. Please…..

  22. If Devito directs this it would be pretty sweet. Anyone here watch War of the Roses? Or, Death to Smoochy? Two of my favorite comedies.

  24. God, what have we done to you?

  25. Twins was good back in its day….A second chapter a year ot two after might have worked, but to take them now when Arnald doesn’t look muscle bound, Danny is looking more and more like The Penguin he played in Batman, and Eddie is looking almost like a twin to his less famous brother……There’s just not enough charm to make it work. I do however like the idea of the three of them in some other comedy, but not one that starts out with high expectations left over rom Twins….

  26. Pass, pass, pass!

  27. This Blog made my day

  28. I could easily see it being as good as the first one, and worth some laughs. This might actually be exactly the kind of thing these guys should be doing in their careers now. These long-haul sequels (thinking of Bill & Ted 3 also) could wind up being somewhat decent if they’re handled with care.
