Update: It seems that Vaughn did not realize that he would have to actually *move* to Vancouver for a year and did not want to uproot his family.

I give the man credit for not wanting to move his family temporarily, but please, how could he NOT know that he’d be on location for an extended period??

I don’t know how keen I’d be on the use of Joss Whedon as a director. His work on Buffy [The Vampire Slayer] was sub-par at best. They should bring in someone with ties to the genre but with an almost ‘out-there’ aura to him.

Perhaps Richard Kelly?

I’m not familiar with Richard Kelley’s work (I haven’t seen “Donnie Darko”). The Whedon connection is probably speculation at best anyway.

Overall this is really a bummer and I don’t know how the production can possibly move forward on schedule. Then there’s the issue of whoever comes in as director will want to put their particular spin on it so it would probably mean that the vision that Vaughn had for the film will change considerably.
