I’ve known about this for a while but it’s finally getting some press and seriously moving forward. Marvel has been planning a series of straight-to-DVD animated films, the first of which will be based on Volume I of The Ultimates title. Based on comments from the panel at Wizard World Chicago, the story will be taken right from the pages of the comic, so I guess if you’ve read it, the thrill will be in watching it animated.
It sounds at least, like they’re taking a serious approach to this and not doing a Saturday morning style cartoon. It will be at a PG/PG-13 level, which is appropriate to the comic.
When I read the comic one of the first things that came to mind was that it seemed very cinematic… almost a reverse of the comic-to-movie thing. It was as if the movies had influenced the look of the comic book. This gave it more of an air of reality and grittiness, so I’m curious to see how it translates to a movie. Quite easily, I would guess.

I hope they release a trailer of it. Plus, I liked this line in regards to the movie(s) being set in the ultimate universe or regular one:
“The Iron Man film is [the] classic Iron Man origin. That’s what you guys would want to see.”
Wow….I just read that whole thread on the Punisher with Trasky…
Sorry, Vic. I can see why you shut down that discussion. A debate is great, but that was definetly getting tedious.
He wasn’t insulting you technically (like he said), but, man, was there a lot of malice in his posts.
And I even liked the Punisher.
Anyway, this Ultimate Avengers sounds very intrigueing. I can’t wait to hear the different voices for the characters- especially Tony, who I’m guessing will actually have two different voices: one in the suit and one out. I wonder how much Stark’s voice will be distorted with the helmet on.
I’m looking forward to “Ultimate Avengers” as well, but although I’m a huge Iron Man fan, I’m not that fired up about the Ultimates version.

Yeah, of all the characters in the comic Iron Man’s probably been given the least to do. Besides planning to get married he really hasn’t factored that heavily into the overall story. I did like a little moment with him after he stopped a huge alien ship from crashing onto the city (just barely).
Apparently, a future arc will involve his technology being stolen, so he should be integral to that plotline.
I was hoping that (as it seemed that Millar was hinting at this) Tony would be the only one to believe Thor (who’s in trouble in the current arc). It would be rather ironic considering Thor is of a mystical nature and Tony’s thinking is routed in science. Tony was the only one who believed Thor could save the Ultimates from a gigantic bomb in Volume One and he’s hesitated several times when the others have been quick to disavow what Thor claims to be the truth. Not only would it make Tony more interesting if he were to trust Thor while the rest of the Ultimates believe he’s a threat it would also help the plot. After all, the whole team looks kind of stupid when no one stops for a second and thinks about what they’ve done when one of their members expresses doubts about their recent activities.
Hmm…I was trying to reduce any spoilers for people who haven’t read the comic but might in the future or who plan on seeing the film when it comes out. That, unfortuanetly, made my post very vague.
Also, Iron Man being one of my all time favorite characters, I didn’t like the portrayal in that title. Of course about the ONLY place he’s being portrayed correctly right now is by Bendis in “New Avengers”.
