According to Variety, there have been some frenzied meetings over the last couple of days which have resulted in Spielberg’s War of the Worlds being fast-tracked with Tom Cruise as the lead. This has pushed production of Mission Impossible 3 to summer of 2005, which seems to completely rule him out for the role of Tony Stark in the upcoming Iron Man movie.
I guess that with the success of Collateral, Cruise has reminded the studios that he still has star power, and he’s opted for a film project with a lot more juice than one where he plays a superhero that’s not as well known as

You know it’s funny. I think Tom C. is a good actor. But I get so….. weary of the hollyweird hype on people. (Can you IMAGINE what it’s like in real life?) Sometimes it’s hard for us little folk to tell the actors with chops from the image of the actors with chops.
But then, I liked “Legend”, and in the big Movie Guide Bible those turkeys gave it a turkey!
And “Top Gun” makes me want to puke.
Go figure.
Eh. They are just the “talkies” after all.
I try not to follow the offline hype… I’m really not interested in their personal lives. But I suppose that does influence how “big” a star they are and how well their movies do.

The offline hype shouldn’t matter, but as you know, entire TV shows are built around the offline hype, and little else. Of course, when the offline hype translates into criminal charges, everything starts hitting the fan.
I generally wasn’t a big fan of Cruise’s movies until probably A Few Good Men. I thought Top Gun was mildly enjoyable but hokey. (How’s that for Bruckheimer movies in a nutshell?) I couldn’t stand Legend. The premise was okay, but Cruise was horribly miscast in that one.

I saw Cruise on Leno the other night… What is TC’s appeal anyway? There was NOTHING clicking in that interview. I’ve seen more personality in bricks. But anything he did (pulled up his pant’s leg) and the audience screamed.
?????
Whatever. I am guess I am too blas?.
Don’t you understand, Zipper? Shows like Extra and Entertainment Tonight tell us that Cruise must be worshiped like a god. Who are we to argue?
Brian
Zipper, I have to say I agree. I rarely watch Leno, but I happened to tune in that night. It was like Jay had to pull teeth to get anything out of the guy. Of course Leno was yanking his chain a bit, making him wonder how to answer some of the questions.
