On Friday I had the chance to watch the six minute Dark Knight preview but not the new trailer for the movie. Although the preview was fantastic, I’d also heard that the second (and first full length) trailer for The Dark Knight is great as well.
I didn’t post the bootlegged and cruddy looking trailer that’s been circulating for a couple of days because not only was it lousy looking, but I don’t support people sneaking into movie theaters with camcorders. I’ve been hearing that the official trailer will premiere at one of the Dark Knight viral sites called “A Taste For The Theatrical.”
Well that’s all irrelevant because the official trailer is finally online at the site and you can watch it below right now!

HOLY CRAP!
This movie is SO going to rock…. the only possible negative I can see is that Heath Ledger as the Joker is going to utterly and completely overshadow Christian Bale as Batman.

I think it’s wonderful.
Favorite shots:
1. The intensity of Ledger’s face when he says “Why So Serious”. I definitely see the homicidal maniac in that shot.
2. Joker firing the bazooka. He looks like he has no idea of what he’s doing, because up until now he’s been a small-time crook and now he’s unleashing destruction on a massive scale. Maybe I’m reading too much into it…
3. Ledger’s shoulders in the final couple shots. He just looks tough. I kinda like that. He looks like a heavy, he looks like someone who could go toe to toe for a second or two with Batman. It just seems more real than the wiry Joker we see in the comics. Since he did used to be a crook before he was jokerized, it would make sense that he’s got some strength.
Anway, very exciting stuff!

I did see the pirated version, but it’s great that it’s officially out in much better quality now. So cool!

Interesting point about Heath Ledger overshadowing Bale, and I agree. From the 6 min. prologue to the new trailer, Ledger is shaping up to be the best Joker ever! From his mannerisms, the voice, the laugh, etc., he’s just spot on.
Wow.. Looks like it could be a GREAT movie!! The Tumbler makes a re-appearance, and the new Bat-Bike is great!!!
That white-illuminated place where Bruce was lowered into.. is that the new Batcave? The Tumbler is parked there, and takes off from there.. Looks like that’s the result of strengthening the foundations.
This trailer has upped the ante for upcoming 2008 superhero action movies. When will a new high-octane Iron Man trailer come out, I wonder..
I think Bruce lives in a penthouse while the house is being rebuilt, so the lower garage is the new Batcave away from home.
How about the Joker’s first full reveal? SCARY! Or his laugh in the truck? Or looking over his shoulder at the end? AWESOME!

Oh man, the Joker.. he looks creepy! And under those clothes, it looks like there’s a lean fighting machine like Jake La Motta.. I guess this Joker can square off against Batman’s Keysi Fighting Method with some boxing or Wing Chun / JKD type moves of his own..
I am perfectly satisfied with this trailer! I just have one teeny problem. I hope The Joker CAN’T go toe to toe with Batman, as I think that’s an important detail to remember. The Joker is a genius but not a fighter, they tried to turn him into a kung fu master in the cartoon “The Batman” and that ended up horribly.
The Joker is the type of guy who will kick you when you’re down, not the type to stand up to you one-on-one.
I think he uses his wits to torture Batman psychologically. It’s been hinted for a while, Look at how the emblem is falling apart in all the publicity shots.

Boy,was I wrong about Joker!! He looks SOOO much better in live action than he did in those early pictures! FAN-FREAKIN’-TASTIC!! He looks great!! They’ve done a great job with him!! I love the shot of BW holding the cowl sitting in a chair,that is STRAIGHT out of the Batman comix right there!! Damn! Oh,oh,and that scene of Batman standing on top of that building is AWESOME!! Really cool! Pure Batman right there! Almost remniscent of the end scene from Batman the animated series’ opening credits! KEWL!! B-)
The batpod looks great!! I’m SO glad the Joker blows up the freakin’ tumbler so Batman can build a cooler,more streamline batmobile! WOW! And,I’m quite happy that they’ve recasted Katie Holmes’ part,personally.
Yeah,I still want to see a batsuit that’s black and dark gray on the areas it is in the comix (and a LITTLE more flexible),but what are you gonna do,right? At least it has no nipples!
This one is gonna blow the doors of Begins!! It’s gonna be better in every way,I think!
This film looks great,it’s gonna be really good,this trailer has DEFINITELY given me faith and reduced my fanboy criticisms to a minimum. So,BRING IT ON!! I can’t wait to see some more!!

Leave the big fights to guys like Superman or Spider-Man,see cuz if Batman were just a guy who was good at beating up other non superpowered guys,he would be of no real value to the JLA,who’s got guys that can move mountains and sprint faster than the speed of sound,with teamates like that,Batman’s fighting skills seem almost obsolete. So,the League needs Batman cuz of his smarts,his strategies and game plans,he makes the plans and the rest of the superpowered team does the grunt work. That’s what’s appealing,I think,about Batman. He’s got a mind on par to that of Lex Luthor’s,only not sinister. 
Yeah. I don’t think that Joker should be able to put up much of a fight against Batman. But I think he should be able to at least fight a less talented fighter than Bats to a standstill. It just seems more realistic to me.
But, of course, first and foremost he should be a psychological foe.
It’s kinda good,IMO,that they casted someone like Heath Ledger as the Joker,because he’s someone who’s mostly played more pretty boy type roles (trying hard NOT to do a brokeass mountain joke >:-D) and in order for him to take on a role as radical to anything he’s ever done as the Joker,he’d have to chuck completely anything remotely similar to himself and actually BECOME a new personality,he actually must BE the Joker. Whereas someone like Nicholson (great as he was,and I loved him tho,I enjoyed the heck out of him),who’s infamous for playing these type of psycotic, maniacal bad guy roles could just go into the Joker role and kind of be himself or do what he usually does. So you get Joker acting like Nicholson,not Nicholson acting like Joker. They did a smart thing,at the end of the day,(and I was as pissed as everyone else when they announced Heath Ledger was playing Joker originally) by casting Ledger as the Joker,cuz he will actually HAVE to be the Joker,we can’t have Joker doing a nice guy Heath Ledger impression,can we? But in the same breath,why the hell would they cast Michael Caine as Alfred? Again,it’s like the Nicholson joker thing,he’s not playing Alfred,Alfred’s playing Michael Caine!
I’m with you,Kel,on all part except the Tumbler.:) The most notable point you made was that Bats HAS to prove that above all his skills, that he is the world’s greatest detective. Very much looking forward to this film, almost as much as IM,LOL. Hope the rest of the Brian Singer and any future superhero film directors take notes from the great line up of films coming in 08′.

I agree,I hope that the future superhero filmakers take note too. I’m really looking forward to the next Superman film,I have a gut feeling that it will be awesome as well,just as long as they don’t have Superman do anything as out of character as his “relationship” with Lois Lane was as suggestd in SR and that they find a way to erase the “bastard child” of Superman from the mythos. The afformentined things,IMHO,almost destroyed SR. They should just do the next Superman film so that it ignores that stuff,I really liked SR except for those things.
OFF SUBJECT: If the Californy Comic Con ‘08 has exclusive footage of JLA,then I may fly out to check it out. I’m really excited for the film,cuz I LOVE the JLA,but at the same time I’m worried that they’re gonna muk it all up. So I hope for the best and fear for the worst,I guess. :-/

are getting a bit annoying,hopefully they’ll at least send a message to other filmakers that says GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!! But,yeah,I thought SR was supposed to start fresh too,but they say it’s “loosely based” on Superman 1 (realy good film,IMO) and Superman 2 (not so much,IMO),kinda like how Batman Forever was “loosely based” on Batman and Batman Returns,hence having dead actor Marlon Brando reprise his role as Jor El,which,IMO,was a bad idea in the first place because now they can’t do any new scenes/flashbacks with Jor El cuz the actor they used is DEAD! Braniac (one of my fave Superman villains) is supposedly the villain in the next film,and surely they would have SOME “old” footage of Jor El on Krypton,cuz that’s where Braniac hails from in the comix. So,a slight reboot with similar cast (namely Brandon Routh,Kevin Spacey and possibley Kate Bosworth) might prove to be a worthy idea,cuz that way they can at least tell a story without bogging the film down with the “bastard kid” and Supes’ and Lois’ suggested affair and they can do new Jor El scenes,know what I mean?
But,it could also mean development hell for YEARS and YEARS,and God knows when we’ll see another Superman. It would also mean that SR was a joke,that there was no reason to really make the film. So it’s a damned if ya do,damned if ya don’t scenario. Sheeesh. It’s times like these that make me wanna grab whoever’s responsible for this horse crap and say “WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?!!”. But,to be honest,it’s whoever thought giving Superman a bastard kid would be a cool idea’s fault for why WB suggested a reboot,that’s what most people complain about (the kid) and that’s what would probably prevent a descent Superman sequel,IMO.

Endri,I’m not sure what “Superman suit” you’re talking about. If you’re reffering to the one with the Siegel/Shuster(?) grandkids or kids or related party’s suit over Superman/superboy for creator rights then I’m not sure what’s up with that either. I do know that what happens with it will effect whether or not Superman is ever in a comic,film,cartoon,etc again. Hey KAL if you ever noticed any of my other comments you will realize I am not the best speller as a metter of fact I am still in 10th greade and have time to correct my spelling but that is the suit I was tolking about.
And the whole Joker/Bond thing I was tolking about was about the part when the Joker was shooting at Batman while he was riding the bike or somthing like that he looked bad ass. Because the Joker I am use to is the one that uses kids toys as weapons (I wonder if they put that in the movie or at least the laghing gas)but what I saw was that Joker uses nighfs instead of playing cards. And the whole Joker whants to make people laghf is that that is how he started (if you read the killing joke) he traid to make people laghf but was not good at it than he felt into wat of toxic wast or whatever, then he became the Joker.
KEL, that’s good news Singers on board I think he’s one of the best when it comes to super hero films.

The version of the Joker seen in Killing Joke isn’t exactly THE definite version of the character,matter of fact,there IS NO definite version of the character’s origin. If you read Mark Waid’s Joker “origin” (which was supposed to be the Joker’s definite origin) you’ll see what I mean. I think it’s at the DC Comics website incase you wanted to check it out.:-)
Steve,that is good news that Singer will be back,Brandon Routh will be Superman in the next Superman film again as well. I don’t know how much truth there is to this,but sometime ago I read that Singer was considering Orlando Bloom for the role of Braniac. But that may or may not be a rumor,I honestly have no idea whether that’s true or not. I guess that casting is right up there with the Heath Ledger Joker right?

At the Wizard World Comic Con earlier this year they had Two Face at the end scene of the exclusive footage that they showed. I don’t know about the batwing,I’m almost afraid to see what it would look like.;-)

The Tumbler I guess that’s the nickname for this Batmobile.
Sure its not comic-cannon. But I think what these new Bat films are trying to do is make this seem more realistic in using real automotives and real bikes with machine guns strapped to them.

Didn’t read every post, just wanted to put a quick word in to the statement whether or not The Joker will overshadow The Batman.
All I’ve gotta say is I think what we saw of The Joker in this clip is probably every scene he’s going to be in. His whole attire and mannerisms would just get quirky and lose their touch if they were shown the entire movie.
So no, I think The Batman will shine, but this trailer was directed to people who hadn’t been following all the viral messages about The Joker, like we do ;P

Comic con is located north of San Diego. That’s about a 3 hour drive for me.
I’ve never gone to one. I think they should really produce a comic Con direct to dvd documentary. Cronicling the event ..?
Man,that must bite to see the strikers out there everyday. I hope the strike is settled soon,not that I disagree with the writers or anything,but I want my damn movies,and I want them to be good. So if JLA’s script has some groaners (al la a “Jason” in da script ;-)) then they can’t correct them if the strike is still going on in Feb when shooting begins.
I know they have comic cons all over the country year ’round,but I know that the Sandiego one is THE biggest and is THE ONE to go to for movie exclusives. Of course,the Wizard World comic cons showcase a lot of upcoming films,like the afformentioned excusive Dark Knight footage that included Two face,maybeI’ll get around to one one o’ these days.
I’m researching more JLA movie stuff today,mostly about the rumored Superman actors and such.:-)

5 dollars says that when you call your local theater for showtimes on TDK the recorded voice will say this: “Batman: The Dark Knight,now showing at…” instead of just “The Dark Knight: now showing at…”,cuz to be honest there are some people who sincerely won’t know what the hell The Dark Knight is,they’ll just know there’s a new Batman movie and if they hear Batman before the rest of the title they’re more likely to see it,providing they haven’t seen previews and can’t remember the name of “that new Batman movie”.
One thing that cocerns me with the Joker in this film is how he puts the “smiles” on peoples’ faces. Does he scarr them with a knife or does he use laughing gas like in the comic books? Hopefully the latter because seeing him take a knife to someone’s face will be REALLY sickening (yeah,he’s evil and inclined to do something as perverted,but can we draw SOME sort of line with his gruesome deeds,please,Nolan?),and may even warrant an “R” rating,but I’m afraid Nolan might go with the knife “smile scarr” thing cuz he might think that “laughing gas” is a little too “far fetched” for his “motion picture”. I guess we’ll wait and see.:-/
I may dislike that “Tumbler” thing,it just isn’t the typical comic book styled batmobile to me,I understand the reasons for it tho,but I’m really likin’ that “batpod” aka batcycle!! It’s a badass lookin’ thing! MMM!

Well,Steve,Cillian Murphy will be back as the Scarecrow,supposedly a minor character in this film,and according to an article in an issue of Wizard Magazine,Anthony Michael Hall is speculated as being cast as the Riddler,but over at IMDB.com they have him listed as playing someone named Mike Engel,not a clue who this character is,and IMDB IS wrong about things sometimes,but if he’s playing the Riddler (aka Edward Nigma) this might just be a phony name.
Also,sometime ago,and I don’t think there is any truth to this,but sometime ago actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was supposedly going to play the Penguin in TDK. Good choice,IMO,he played the bad guy in Mission Impossible 3 named Davian to a T. But I don’t believe that is true.

I’m thinking we get Jokers story throughout most the film and just as things wine down its POW, BAM, KPOW, Riddler and Two-face! This is great news better than that last bit about Spidey…OMG!
I could not believe my eyes when I watched the trailer! Health Ledger is AWESOME as the new Joker! Much better and creepier than Jack Nicholson (although I did like his performance also). This is going to be ONE HELL OF A MOVIE. Can’t wait till July 2008! LONG LIVE THE JOKER!
After watching the trailer again,I have to say the Joker looks great!
Am I the only one who thinks the Joker’s “smile” loosely resembles the Ceaser Romero Joker smile,you know,like the red lip/smile/paint area a little? Just curious. Google a Ceaser pic before you answer.
Yeah KEL he does look more like the Ceasar Ramaro Joker. I always loved that guy on the Orginal Batman.^
If I remember the Crow had similar type smile painted on his face.

I loved this trailer so much I had to come back and see it again! I believe Heath Ledger will do a fantastic job as the new Joker. Much better than Nicholson (I did not like the stupid “dancing around to Prince at the museum” and his “death” scenes). I always felt that ruined Batman ‘89. The Joker should NOT have been killed off. Stupid mistake by Tim Burton. No wonder the other films failed. I’ve got a feeling the Dark Knight will be better than any Batman movie before it (I loved “Begins”. I trust Nolan. I believe he is doing it right.

Dude its like the sweetest movie that has been made i have been a Batman fan since the age of 5 and its just got better and better. But out of all the Batmans that there has been Bale has done the best Keaton is next then Kilmer then Cloony. And RIP Heath Ledger my respects to his family. The up side is that the movie was finished
As posted by “Vic” about the Joker’s laugh: We do see him laugh for an instant in the trailer before the truck flips over. I really do hope we see more of his laughter in the movie. In my opinion, without the laughter, there is no “Joker”. That is what sets the Joker apart from any other DC villian. I do appreciate the more serious tone Mr. Nolan is accomplishing with the new movie and from what the new trailer has shown, anyone who is a “bat fan” like myself is going to be totally pleased and “blown away” by Mr. Hedger’s performance. RIP Heath! Thank you for leaving us with what I know is going to be one hell of a great film.
First I would like to say that Christian Bale is a babe and he’s one of my favorite actors. I liked him in Rescue Dawn, The Prestige, and of course, Batman Begins. I can’t wait for the Dark Knight to come out. : )
And as far as Heath Ledger playing the joker, I think he did a great job, well from what i saw on the trailer. Jack Nicholson and Jim Carrey both brought something to the Joker character, and I think Heath will have done the same. : )It’s just too bad that he won’t be around for the movie premeire and we will all miss him.
I’ll be counting the days until the Dark Knight comes out!! : )
