The Mighty Thor Is Coming To The Big Screen!
Written on August 9, 2007 by Heath McKnight
I'm very excited about this film! I love Thor, maybe not as much as Harry over at AICN does, but Walt Simonson's take on the character is legendary.
Anyway, Matthew Vaughn, who left X-Men 3 because of the rushed nature and bad script, and whose Stardust opens today, will be helming the film.
The script, which I heard is great, was written by Mark Protosevich (he penned the upcoming I Am Legend), and Marvel wants to get started this winter because of the potential actor, writer and director strikes. Any one of these unions might strike and cripple Hollywood. There's a big rush of films going into production, just like the potential strikes in the early part of the decade.
It sounds like Odin, Asgard, Midgard, Loki and the rest will all be in what's looking like an epic film, according to AICN.
That means three Marvel films next year, including the much-anticipated Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.
Well, I'm pumped about this news and hope Vaughn and his team knock it out of the park. Vaughn even dropped hints in this interview with AICN. My fingers are crossed for a killer 2008 with some Marvel Movies!

Oh man, Thor wold be an awesome movie!I hope they use classic Thor though, and not ultimate...I think it would make for a better movie. I have a feeling they would overdo the "Is he crazy, or a god?" aspect a bit.
But who to play him...

Maybe they will get Vincent D'Onofrio to play him. After all he has already played him in Adventures in Babysitting.
They'll probably go with an unknown, and I'm hoping it's someone gigantic and burly. It's gonna be tough with the costume, but I trust Marvel, Vaughn and the teams will do well.
I wonder if we'll see a Captain America movie rushed out there, too.

Will not the Wolverine movie make Marvel Movie #4 or is it not part of the franchise?
I forgot about Wolverine! However, that's a Fox-produced movie, unlike Iron Man, Hulk and Thor (and Cap, Avengers, Ant Man, etc.), which are Marvel productions that Paramount is distributing (except the new Hulk is once again being distributed by Universal).

If they're doing a classic Thor with a pepped-up look ala the Ultimates version, perhaps they can use Triple H for the role.. He's big and tall, and has long blonde locks. And he sure as hell looks like the Ultimates' Thor on one of the comic covers.
OMG!! 2008 is going to rock!! I really hope they go with the Classic version too, much more character and story to Thor there. Soooo awesome, this news is!! I certainly hope there is a Cap movie in the works for 08 too. That would be sweet!! Stick to the Classics, dude, and they'll all be awesome!!!
To bad Triple H's acting is alittle to be desired. I hope it will be more 80% "LOTR" type fantasy then real world.
I just saw Vaughn's "Stardust" (review will be up by the end of the weekend) and all I can say is that I hope "Thor" turns out better...

Maybe I should see Layer Cake, too.

Thor is cool...But I really believe Wolverine might just dust him off!
i'm thrilled, i have been following the marvel thor since 1966, and yes tripple h is the first i have seen who has the right physical presance for the part, maybe a good acting coach could make it happen or a lot of takes.
Latest rumor is Mark Protosevich, the writer, didn't get the script re-written in time for the writers strike, so it's delayed until after. The script re-write was mostly to get the budget down from a rumored $300 million to probably $115 million. Tall order!

$300 million??????
That's insane.. absolutely insane.. Pretty ambitious, these guys..
