Well, word came down that Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will only be producing The Hobbit and its sequel, which may either be The Hobbit broken up into two films, or what’s been rumored, which is a prequel to LotR.
At any rate, does Sam Raimi turning down Spider-Man 4 mean he’s in a position to direct The Hobbit and the sequel?

It’s been rumored since around the time Spider-Man 3 opened that Raimi might be involved as director. He even went so far as to say he’ll direct only if Peter Jackson is producing.
If you remember, Jackson has been suing New Line Cinema, who released the Lord of the Rings, over accounting oversights on the first film. Since then, it’s been a war between Jackson and Bob Shaye, head of the studio, with the fate of Middle Earth at stake. Well, at least the lucrative production of two new films.
But it looks like things might be clearing up, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Raimi directs The Hobbit and the sequel/prequel film. No word on the 3D rumors, but don’t discount them yet!
One small thing: Will Sir Ian McKellan and the rest return with a non-Jackon directed The Hobbit? I’d say yes, especially with PJ producing!

Was just wondering, has Raimi decline to do Spidey 4? Sam would be a great pick though I rather see him still attached to the Spidey franchise minus one Tobey and one Kristan.
So far I haven’t heard anything other than that Jackson will be executive producing. I haven’t heard of anything that says he can’t also direct the films. It sounds to me like there’s still a chance of that, maybe even a better chance than before he and New Line settled their differences.
As for Raimi, I’m also curious as to whether he actually said he wasn’t going to direct Spidey 4. Last I heard, no decision had actually been made/announced on that score.
Everything is up in the air regarding Spider-Man 4 as far as I know.

I can live with a Raimi / Jackson partnership if that comes to pass. (I didn’t like the Spiderman 3 Script is all…blah, whata mess!)
With Jackson attached to the Hobbit project, I’m feeling confident that it will be his vision. So I’m VERY happy with this news.
