That’s true; you don’t want to end up with grey. However, both can easily be done either dark or light. (Remember the campy Batman TV series from the 60’s?) Personally, I think it would be cool to see them both done dark. (Superman’s life story is pretty depressing when you really think about it, the soap opera of Smallville notwithstanding.) If it had a light atmosphere, the risk would be the inevitable comparisons to Superfriends. I grew up thinking Superman and Batman were law-abiding wusses; how scary is that?

I agree, dark would be better. You can’t bring Batman out into the light and not have him look silly. Frank Miller handled the Batman/Superman dichotomy in his Dark Knight books. The first one at least, was really well done.
