Superman 5 movie casting looking good?

According to DarkHorizons.com, things are finally picking up steam with the long-awaited next Superman movie. Highly-placed rumour is that Henry…

McG has a real name: Joseph McGinty Nichol.

I originally decided to cut McG some slack, even though I hated the original Charlie’s Angels. (Never saw the sequel, in case you were wondering.) That whole franchise was essentially Drew Barrymore’s labor of love, and I would strongly suspect that she had him under her creative thumb, for the most part. With some directors, such as McG, it really depends on how much creative control you give them.

Having said all that, any amount of confidence I had in McG dried up when he served as an exec producer on the abysmal Fastlane and the mind-numbing The O.C., both on Fox. Now that he has shown what he is really about, I have total confidence that he will run this Superman installment right into the ground. Whether he makes a movie that pokes fun at itself or not, he will end up alienating and/or frustrating Superman fans, his own fans, or both groups at the same time.

Ultimately, I hope Johny Depp ends up being cast. If he is, he’ll be the redeeming quality to an otherwise underwhelming film. (I can’t imagine him bald, though.) The rest of the casting choices are inexplicable. Selma Blair as Lois Lane?! Adam Brody as Jimmy Olsen?! You’ve gotta be kiddin’ me. Rose Byrne seems like a decent choice to play Lois, but she looks quite a bit like a young Margot Kidder, and I don’t think anyone wants to go down the “look-alike” path.

You wanna know what scares me about McG, even more than the fact that he’s directing Superman? The fact that he’s directing Hot Wheels.

I don’t know, I think the photos fit the characters ok.

As far as your reference to the Hot Wheels movie, I’ve got to disagree with you. That’s exactly the type of movie McGinty should be working on. Based on a toy car with absolutely no story history or continuity issues. :-)

Yeah, you’re right about Hot Wheels being McG’s type of movie. What I was trying to say (but didn’t get across very well) was that it scares me that Hot Wheels is being made at all.

oh god, no..not selma blair for Lois lane. Please no. She was tolerable in Hellboy. Why do they always want to case some olive oil, plane jane type for her? Why can’t they get creative and find a hottie like they did for smallville to play Lana. I mean she is obviously an older character, (lois) but still, its time to bring her into the future and cast a babe who can act, in her role.

And selma be warned, remember what happened to the last actress who played lois! Insane asylum anyone?

I’m totally with you, JR. Selma Blair is not very attractive, and in many cases, she’s downright annoying. I didn’t even like her in Hellboy. There is indeed a “Superman” curse of sorts. Margot Kidder is a prime example. The actors who played Superman didn’t fare so well either…
