One of my favorite movies is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It’s one of those quirky comedies where everything hits just right: The right actors, story, music… just everything. The story of devil-may-care character Ferris Bueller (played at the time by 24 year old Matthew Broderick) and his quest to loosen up his wound-way-too-tight best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) is now considered a classic. Admittedly, the ending of the movie really begs for a revisit of the characters at some point later in their lives, but can anyone really be trusted to capture lightning in a bottle for the second time?
I seriously doubt it.

On the plus side, at least they’re not talking about a remake, but a sequel. The title of the script that is hunting for a studio home is Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off. The title alone tells me that it’s probably horrible. It was written by screenwriter Rick Rapier, who doesn’t even have a page up on IMDB.com.
The idea is to revisit the characters 20 years later, and we find Ferris as a Tony Robbins-type self-help guru, up to his eyeballs in his fame and fortune and wanting to take another day off.
Rapier’s hope is to get the original cast back together as well as bringing back John Hughes, director of the original film.
Seeing that the guy has no track record, I highly doubt that this is going anywhere.

I can only pray they don’t try it. The first one as you said, Vic is like a classic among classics. And yes, the title alone sounds like one of those Disney movies that they team are to lazy to think of up a good sequel so they just say “again” or “another” or so forth.
Of the necessarily few, legitimate reasons to go ahead with any remake or sequel, the one that is an absolute must is that the execution of the original is somehow lacking in some way or that there was room to explore new ideas with the same characters while being true to the nature of their characterization as portrayed by the first iteration - and be as entertaining as the first.
There isn’t any conceivable, rational way to make a Ferris sequel that can satisfy the first criteria, and the second seems highly unlikely considering the unknown helming the screenplay.
