By now, I’m sure anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock has heard about Mel Gibson’s recent arrest for drunk driving. (His mugshot is here, in case you were wondering.) Hollyweird is now abuzz with talk of how Gibson’s career is history. (Yeah… I think Robert Downey Jr. might have a different take on that.) Apparently in a town as corrupt and morally deprived as Hollyweird, drunken driving and making inappropriate comments are unforgivable offenses, even if you take full responsibility for your actions and offer two public apologies afterwards. I’m not defending what Gibson did and said, but if it had been Colin Farrell or Russell Crowe who had gone through that situation, would we be seeing the same kind of massive news coverage?
At any rate, the latest celeb to turn his back on Gibson is Rob Schneider. Personally, if I were Gibson, I would sleep much easier at night knowing I wouldn’t have to worry about working with Rob Schneider anytime soon.

LMAO! Like it was EVER likely that he would work in a movie with Mel Gibson!
Of course the real reason for the HUGE backlash is the number of Jews involved at all levels of the Hollywood entertainment industry.
And that is in NO way a bigoted comment, it’s simply true. As a matter of fact, I’ve always wondered why an industry that has so many Jewish people (a label that I’ve always equated to moral values) in positions of power and influence continues to pump out so much lowbrow crap.
If it had been some Jewish actor making disparaging comments about Christians it wouldn’t have even gotten a whiff of news coverage.

In response to Vic’s final statement, a sentiment which is echoed across the internet, if a Jewish actor made anti-christian comments, it would be news. Now, half the story is that he said something anti-semetic, while the other half is that he was caught DUI. If a jewish actor, such as Rob Schneider, was caught DUI and said anti-christian comments, it would still be reported. Why? Because he was drunk and said this. It is big news because he was drunk. We all know Mel wouldn’t have said that if he was arrested while he was sober, but the fact is, he was drunk, and let it slip.
Sorry, but I disagree. Probably the “drunk” part would have been news, but an anti-Christian comment would have been a footnote.
Now if some drunk star made an anti-MUSLIM comment… look out for how the news agencies would be outraged by THAT.

I wouldn’t expect warlike religions to forgive. Isn’t that what Gibson has asked for? The Jewish comunity is continuing to do the same thing that was stated in Gibson’s films.
Well atleast Mel Gibson has asked for fogivness and offered an appoligy. Other public figures have yet to do the same.
Way to forgive and move on.. Lets nail him to the cross and show him what were really made of.

Yup. Funny how Hollywood will forgive members of their community for some things (drugs, alcohol, pedophilia), but not this.

I’m going to agree with Vic on this one. Had this been a drunk Jew (or probably ANY member of any other religion…except for probably Scientology, lol) this would not have been news, or at least, not big news. The reason Gibson’s failure is such huge news is because he’s basically put himself out there with his past actions, and this is basically too good a chance to pass up for those people who’d like nothing better than to see his life in ruins due to his beliefs. I will say that I don’t think the rumors that his career is over are anymore valid this time than after he did The Passion of the Christ (surely you remember how it was humdrummed by many that it would be his downfall, only to see it become one of the more successful movies in recent memory).
I’m not condoning what he said, or how he behaved himself, it’s disappointing, to be sure, but I’ve seen much more apalling behavior meet silence from the Hollywood Crowd. It’s a shame though, I’m sure Mel is quite crushed that his chances of being in Deuce Bigelow 3 are no more…
