My first feelings of The Punisher: War Zone (aka, The Punisher 2), especially without Tom Jane as the man, were lukewarm at best. Then I heard the lame-sounding script got a rehaul, director Lexi Alexander sounded like she had some great ideas, and the casting of Ray Stevenson made me think, okay, this might be fun.
Well, judging by the first photo of Stevenson, I’m not sure what to think. This isn’t a good “first look” photo, because you can barely see him. To me, he looks kind of like Steven Seagal (gag!). But I don’t want to overanalyze this picture. See a bigger version after the jump. (BTW, we’ve tweaked the image to make it clearer and looking less like it’s being seen through deep, red filter.)

LOL! He does look like Seagal! Hmm…this film sounds interesting tho.
LOL! Ray Stevenson really does not look much like Steven (I’m the cook) Seagal. Photo gallery of his work available at http://www.ray-stevenson.com will destroy that impression. Besides looking the part, Mr. Stevenson is also a well-trained actor (same school as Peter O’Toole) and has a diverse background in theater, TV and films. Look forward to this.
I thought he looked like Steven Seagal too!!
Now, there would be an interesting casting choice!
I really like the last Punisher film, I’m looking forward to this.

Haha that’s also exactly who I thought of first when I saw the photo, Steven Seagal.
Hey guys, I’ve cleaned up the image so it’s not so damned red. I think it looks better.

You gays know that there is an old PUNISHER movie.
It was made like in the late 80’s.
I’m ashamed to admit I’m old enough to remember it. It came out after the success of 1989’s Batman.
It starred action beefcake Dolph Lundgren.
It’s crap- but enjoyable after a few beers.
LOL,Endri! I’ve never seen the 1989 Punisher, thankfully. And yeah,Saad, the suit does look like the John Romita Jr. version.
Saad, I agree,(LOL) Dolph Lundgren looked awesome as the Punisher and did a great job with showing the Punisher insanity and torment better than Thomas Jane. Dolph’s Punisher was missing the Skull on the chest and better acting. I like Thomas Jane’s Punisher, but thought he was too metrosexual(pretty boy)for the role. Thomas Jane would make for a better Cap or Hawkeye than a Punisher. From what I’ve been reading, Ray will be everything fanboy have been dreaming for in a Punisher. Sooo happy Punisher:War Zone will be BRUTALLY RAW (hardcore R)!! Thank you Mrs. Lexi Alexander!:D
I used to watch Dolph’s Punisher (WHERE’S THE SKULL??!!) in the late 1980s all the time. Even at 13, I could pick up on the horrible plot holes. But hey, at least Lou Gossett, Jr. was in it, fresh off his Oscar. I swear, Oscars can be a curse.

I am looking forward to the film. I didn’t feel Thomas Jane really achieved what the Punisher was. Ray looks more the part and I think he has the intensity to make the Punisher an awesome action flick with the dark elements intact. Thomas Jane, best remembered for the masturbation scene in the Crow 2, just really didn’t pull it off. And the first film didn’t follow the story or the history of the title. I think Ray is going to rock this role.
He actually looks more rugged like real special forced guys I have seen. Thomas Jane looks a bit more like a pretty boy compared to him.
