Oh WOW. That is easily the best trailer for a comic book adaptation yet. And I love the music medley in the trailer.

It’s done its job. I’m excited!

WOW!!

“I’m building something big”.. and the Mk.1 armor pounds down the door, followed by Ozzy’s “Iron Man” guitar rift!! Cool!!

But it’s still quite vague at this point, we still don’t really know from the trailer what the story is about apart from a man named Tony Stark getting injured, is supposed to be dead but isn’t (there’s no explanation by Yinsen about the shrapnel near his heart) and ended up building a large suit of armor.

What does he use the updated versions of the suit for? No clues here.

We do, however, get to see Jeff Bridges looking upon an Iron Man-type armor, possibly the Iron Monger.

From the looks of it, it’s just a teaser, not a trailer.. too little information, too many fast cuts. However, the scene of Iron Man going up against the Raptors are still here, as in the leaked footage.. that’s the sweetest way to cap off the teaser!

Sadly, most first installments of movie trilogies spend a majority of their time introducing characters and doing character development and establishing story lines. I think there’ll be more than one Iron Man. The problem I see too often is that people take a comic book series and they make a movie out of it without having ever read the comic books. I’m aware that every director believes that they get creative license to do as they see fit and butcher story lines in the process (and they ought to be hanged publicly for it), but with so much material to cover, the best thing to do is take the first five issues of the comic book and say, “This is the basis for our movie.”

Will they do that? I’m sure we’ll find out as more trailers and eventually the movie come out. Any guesses as to whether this will be an HD-DVD release or Blu-Ray, or both? We already know that Blu-Ray owners got a swift kick in the balls over the Transformers release exclusively on HD-DVD.

You guys aren’t going to believe this, but there’s a part of this trailer that gives me my first hint of worry about the movie.

The scene where Downey Jr gives the “weapons” speech has a COMPLETELY different tone from the same scene (different take) in the Comic-Con trailer. In the trailer he came across as much more confident and forceful where here he’s much more tentative in the way he says it, and the “it’s worked pretty well up until now” line comes across as ironic where in the Con version it came across as powerful.

Vic, I agree, but I’m still crying with tears of joy!!! Thanks for the jump on the trailer.

His tone he quotes it in (”they say…”) as if he is almost mocking it. It sounds to me like a build up to “…I’ve improved upon even that.” That’s the way I see Stark. Takes a paradigm and makes it his own and even better. That’s why he’s always building armors.

Also, sounds to me like Len Kaminski’s origin. How Stark would quickly master a new challenge and then become bored again. “That plane ticket was the single best investment I ever made” — ca. 285 (Vol.1). I’m not sure on the exact issue.

Also, the lines are cut seamlessly in the CC trailer. There are notable pauses in the official trailer between the lines. While I am STOKED to see this trailer it did leave me a little underwhelmed. CC trailer was a way tighter edit.

Zipper, yeah… I actually expected this trailer to be better than the Con footage, but it left me a bit underwhelmed in some parts as well.

Of course I can’t come at this “clean” since I saw the Con footage in a hall full of fans, so I don’t know what my reaction to this would be if I hadn’t seen the other.

Didn’t finish my thought on this… This is (forgive me for being obvious) before the shrapnel and he builds the armor. He is at that point in his life bored to tears with every adventure he goes on. Which his why he drinks a shot afterwards.

“It worked pretty well up till now” - I think there’s no problems with this. Obviously the repulsor-equipped missile system test was a success, because they toasted after that and the young soldier wanted to have his picture taken with Stark. They seemed to be in a celebratory mood overall.

A possible worry would be that part where Stark was instructed “You have until tomorrow to assemble my missile”.. does that mean that the Mk.1 armor was an overnight effort? Seems to be pretty far-fetched if that’s the case.

If you frame-forward the video, there’s a scene of Jeff Bridge’s bald head sticking out from a much larger armor that resembles an updated version of the Mk.1 - I guess that’s Iron Monger, alright.

But I have to agree with Vic, though - The Comic Con footage give a better background info on Iron Man and it’s also a more coherent edit compared to this one.

I saw this in the early hours of the day and was going to post but seeing as how excited Vic has been about the movie, I decided to leave it be until the master got around to it himself. It really was a great trailer! Looks like May 2008 will be a great month for movies, with this and Indiana Jones and the Really Long Title coming out.

This movie is gonna kick so much ass!!! Next to The Dark Knight, this is easily my 2nd most anticipated movie of ‘08.

Sure it missed some of the stuff from the con trailer, namely the explanation of what was going on with Tony’s injuries. Still, I don’t think anybody could argue that trailer was simply awesome!

Shoot! My PC won’t load this for some reason, and I’ll have to wait for the showing on TV,which is,I assume,at 10 PM on MTV,right before the Hills. When this comes on YOU Tube I’ll see it…..I’m so sad right now.

The trailer provides a lot of little bits. The important part is making sure they get the story line down right. There has to be a lot of explaining in regard to the shrapnel in his chest and the development of the different suits. It’s a great story but not one that will be told in 1.5 hours. Any clue to film duration?

Odds are, this is the first of several Iron Man films. Anyone know if the actors signed contracts for more than one film?

Vic said,
September 11th, 2007
Favreau has over three hours of footage to work with but he’s trimming it down to get it under the two hour mark for theatrical release.

That leaves plenty of goodies for DVD extras. :-)
All actors are signed on for three “Iron Man” movies.

Just watched the trailer on attack of the show. I loved it! Short, but really SWEET! My only problem is the Black Sabath Iron Man song is played throughout the trailer. I really hope the movie soundtrack is NOT done with nothing but the Black Sabath music. That will really drag the movie down. It was too cliched and dated to be used in the trailer, but I assume that was partly done because the film doesn’t have a real composer yet, hopefully trailer 2 will deliver something that sounds more (for lack of a better word) superheroish. They gotta put this on You Tube….Cuz I can’t watch it here! LOL! Seriously cool trailer, they just need John Ottman or John Williams or Danny Elfman…..anything other than old rock.

Um, no it wasn’t. Dont know what it is at the very begining of the trailer. But then when he’s captured it’s a Nine Inch Nails song, then changes to Black Sabbath and i’m not sure if it changes to something else after that. Then the “i am iron man” part.

I’m glad you mentioned the “weapons” speech Vic.. I kept thinking what a different feel that had compared to Jon’s CC trailer. I have watched it so many times … and I have come to the conclusion that maybe they wanted it to sound more like a slightly bored, totally confident, egotistical Tony Stark … making his humility more pronounced. But then, they may not even keep this trailer … I’m sure there will be a lot of changes, tweaking etc before they’re finished…. like on, maybe, May 1st ?? ha ha ….

Joyce, now that I’ve watched the trailer about 30 times I agree with you about the intent of the beginning line of the speech. I think the rest of it is the same footage, but I still liked the more assertive delivery of the Con trailer.

Well, it is roughly four months later and I personally think that the buzz is still there; after seeing Cloverfield and feeling that the hype outdid the actual movie somewhat, I still think that Iron Man will live upto what the trailers have been promising.

Hey, i wus just reading the comments at the top, and really the main story idea spins off the more Cartoon version made in 2001 (i think) by marvel. But they really cut out and changed alot of stuff from the cartoon, they only really stole the beginning of the cartoon for the real movie.

Was is L.A. to watch the arrivals at the premiere. Didn’t get to say hello to Robert :-( but did say hi to Jon, Terrence, Shaun, and Gwyneth was just almost to me when the crowd started pushing from behind…. almost pushed us into the street… and the police pulled Gwyneth back and they went back across the street. It was great fun!!

Saw Iron Man Thursday night and all I can say is it exceeded my expectations buy leaps and bounds. Can’t wait to see it again. It was worth the wait!!

O.K., now when will the next one be here?? ;-)
